Our external hard drive died. We've only had it a little over a year ago and it had almost 250 gigs of stuff on it. I am so mad. All of my music, my digital pictures (1998-present) and a bunch of other random stuff was on there. When I try to access it all it will do is give me the error message "the file or directory is corrupt and unreadable." :(
I've been freaking out all day. I spent several hours researching solutions online. I found a few "data recovery" programs and downloaded some demos. I tried one and it found millions of files after a 4 hour scan. I went to the web site to buy it so I could save the files but it costs $99 so I am currently scanning the drive again with a demo of a $30 program to see what it can find. Not that $99 is too much to pay to recover 9 years of pictures that are irreplaceable, but I don't have a lot of extra money right now. If the $30 program works then I will use it. If it doesn't, I will get the $99 one. I'm still freaking out about my pictures though. I won't be able to sleep until I actually have the files back and see that they are all ok.
Keep your fingers crossed for me . . .
