So, it's been awhile. I may not be commenting to any responses b/c it's exam time. But I wanted to give an update.
Cons: I think I did very poorly on an exam today. I have a week until the next one, but that doesn't feel like enough time.
Pros: I was leaving Subway with my sandwich and chips and a person who had been eating there had gone outside. She came up to me b/c she was choking on her food. I gave her the heimlich, which was my first time ever doing that. She spit out the food, I asked if she was ok (she said yes in a coughing voice) and I asked her if she needed anything. She didn't, so I left. I wasn't sure what a person is supposed to do in that situation. Do I stay and help even though she's ok? I drove by once I got to my car and didn't see her outside, so she must have gone back inside. Looking back, she's lucky I didn't have a drink in my hands. That might have made the decision to give the heimlich a little more difficult. j/k.
I've been on a huge kick lately to read more about the historical nature of Jesus. Since I only have about 7-8 channels (one of them being National Geographic), I've been watching a lot of the shows they've been showing on Jesus and the Bible and the Da Vinci Code. The lost gospel of Judas and some others.. I've now seen them many times, and I've started reading some books on the historical nature of Jesus by different Christian apologists. I've determined a few things: National Geographic is very sly with their Anti-Christian views. I don't have time to go into details, but they tweak many minute details in an apparent effort to cast doubt on the reliability of the Bible. It's very interesting, especially since I've been reading so much Christian literature lately. The network gives a lot of credibility to various Gnostics w/o quite saying so. One example: They try to portray the Gnostic speakers as representative of Christians. They brought in a professor from Princeton named Elaine Pagels, but interview her without mentioning that she's one of the leading gnostic scholars in the world. Instead, they use her comments to cast doubt on the gospels of Matt, Mark, Luke & John while spinning the Gospel of Judas as an "advanced version" of the gospels that was meant for more learned people of the time. And to contrast her statements, they'll get some joker like Robert Schuller saying some of the dumbest statement concerning how the four Gospels are all he needs. Now, I'm not saying that's an incorrect statement. But there is so much evidence available as to the correctness and reliability of the 4 gospels that the program didn't even mention. Instead, they get Schuller to say something that makes it appear as if he and other Christians have and do not need evidence to support the Gospels. They are some of the most reliable and well-documented documents in ancient history. but they won't mention that. In addition to the apologetic literature I've been reading,
I purchased this cool book about Jesus. It's a timeline taken straight from the Bible. It's really cool. There's more, but I've already gone on for too long.
Luckily, this research has gotten me really excited about my relationship with Jesus. I've taken the arguments by the critics at face value and have looked at historical evidence disputing them. I'm currently on a mission to read as much as I can about the Da Vinci Code from a Christian perspective. Eventually I'll see the book and watch the movie, but I want to do so after I've read books that refute it.
Man, this is jumbled. Oh well.
I was recently elected (I ran unopposed, so it's no big deal) as the Treasurer of the Public Interest Legal Organization at the law school. The cool thing is that they are the best-funded group at the law school.
In other news, one of my friends from the Ronald McDonald House has gotten some bad news about some of her tests, so any prayers would be much appreciated. She had a tumor removed when I was there, and she's a very sweet girl. I am praying for her.
To end on a bright note. I read about this rap cd put out by people serving in Iraq. It's available on iTunes, and I'm thinking about getting it. It's basically a response to a lot of the media. It's called
Voices from the Frontline Ok, one last bright note. A happy birthday to
MichaelMichael. If you don't know him, you should.
I'm out. Talk to ya'll later.
