We have acquired a office mascot today. It's sitting there staring at me through the leaves of the pot plant with it's big yellow owl eyes. There's a little bit of a story behind it.
Last week we had several hundred zebra finches commit suicide on one of our sites. They decided that instead of drinking from the water filled sump they'd have a sip from the gluggy remains of the drilling mud that hadn't been properly disposed of. It generally gets disposed of in the sump since it's a non-toxic compound. Anyway the reason the finches died was because this concentrated glop from the bottom of the tank is rather sticky. So basicaly they died like those dinosaurs did in the La Brea tar pits.
Anyway back to our office owl; apparently birds are scared off by giant plastic owls. I can just imagine one of these on every drill rig. Hehe :) Personally I think we should just stick with the stuff that doesn't create a gluggy sediment like this one did. Also I really want to take a photo of that owl and submit it to the building photography competition under the workplace category.
