Walken

At dinner the other night Erin B asked about notable Christopher Walken movies. Which was interesting, because he's terribly famous, but he's one of those guys who isn't really famous for leading roles. So we sat around for a bit trying to think of movies worth seeing him in.

The role that put him on the map would I guess be The Deer Hunter. Although for older stuff like that my favorite movie with him would be The Dead Zone, which might also be my favorite filmed Stephen King story. Then there was A View to a Kill, about which really the less said the better.

Has kind of an underappreciated performance in King of New York, which I love like I love most all of Abel Ferrara's movies. It seems to be mainly remembered by hip-hop producers, though.

The Addiction, another Ferrara picture, is one of the many movies where he just does a single scene. (Pulp Fiction is probably still the most famous of those.) Does this long William Burroughs-inspired riff comparing vampires to junkies.

He had a cool lead role in The Prophecy, the one where he was the evil archangel Gabriel. Although I think he was overshadowed there by Viggo Mortensen as the Devil.

And he was apparently in The Country Bears. Dunno what was going on there.
