It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas: On the 9th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
...a beanie bear on top of my tree? XD I know, it's pretty tacky, but I don't have anything else to put up on the top, and the bear has wings and a halo, so I thought, "What the heck?" LOL
I finally got the tree decorated, y'all. And other stuff, too, and I have pictures. Yay!
That's where I decided to put the tree, and I think it works well there. :) I struggled a bit with the lights when I first put them on the other night - it took me a bit to make it work out well enough that I could have it alternating between a row of plain white lights and a row of the multi-colored lights. I didn't get the ornaments put on until tonight, though. I didn't use all that I have, because there's only so many good areas to hang things on the middle and upper part of the tree - I don't want anything on the lower half that might encourage my cats to try and play with them.
Another shot, showing more of the right side of the room.
This is the first time I have ever attempted any sort of centerpiece for my coffee table, but I quite like it. Here's to hoping Nutmeg doesn't try to play hockey with the stones, har.
Closer shot of the candles.
I used to have my autumn leaf tealight candle holders on top of the CD tower, but I decided to put these up since they're more Christmas-y. And that little cat is a pottery sculpture that I've actually had since probably middle school or so, but it had been packed away near the bottom of a box full of candles and other random trinkets. I found it today when I was looking through the box for other candles and things I might want to put out.
This isn't anything new, really, but I never got a picture of these two things after I put them on top of my DVD tower. The Bastet cat that I got at the Field Museum this past summer, and a whale carved from ebony wood that used to belong to my Grams. If I'm correct, it was something she and my Grandad got while they were in Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary.
After I set up the candle platter on my coffee table, I had extra stones left over, so I found another candle and put it and the stones into one of my pie plates (LOL, I've had that for at least 4 years and haven't used it once for pie or any other cooking, so I figured my kitchen won't be missing it any time soon). It's sitting on top of the three-drawer rolling cabinet that I have next to my computer desk.
My dad also gave me an extra set of these blue icicle lights (the twinkling kind!) that my parents had with all their Christmas lights. He suggested hanging them in my hallway, which is exactly what I did. :D They start here on the short bit of hallway in between the doorway to my living room and the front door, where I have Lily's drawing hung...
...and they go all the way down the one side of the hallway here. Pretty!
With the hallway light turned off. I love it. The twinkling effect is really fun when the hallway light is off, hehe. :D
Not really Christmas-related, but I finally remembered to use the comforter cover/pillowcase set that I got at IKEA back when I got all the other things for my apartment. I found it while we were walking around the store and fell in love with it, and luckily, it wasn't expensive at all. It's a leaf pattern, with a light blue color and also some olive green and brown.
Also not Christmas related, but I finally remembered to hang these two photos in my kitchen. For those who don't remember or who didn't know me until recently, these are two photographs taken by Joel, an art student I knew when I was still attending SCSU. At the apartment I had back in St. Cloud, I had them hanging on the wall in the dining area, and after I moved in here and got that table in the kitchen, I knew that this was where I wanted to hang them here. :)
Closer shot of the two photos. The one on the left is a bunch of coffee cups and a canister of Folgers coffee with what I believe are some teabags on top of it. The second one is a shot of a tea kettle. :)
And that's how I do Christmas, folks! :D
