Fridays are for Wimps

Who says the weekend doesn't start at 1:17pm on Thursday afternoon? Certainly not I, since the last class in which I actually have to do something (barring finals) for the rest of the term just ended early. The weather's beautiful again, I'm outside again. Repeat performances CAN be just as good as the original. Unless you wrote Matrix: Reloaded. Okay, that was a low blow.

Until very recently I thought that I could only operate in two modes: busier than hell or completely loafing. However, I discovered that as long as I'm in a place that is conducive to work (essentially the only place that fits the bill is my office) and the work involved is only related to the class I'm TEACHING rather than those than I'm TAKING, I can do some work, listen to some music, write for fun. I can mix up business and pleasure without being consumed by either one.

I think it's a power issue. Since I'm the one in charge of the class, I get to decide on the time line and what's fair to expect from the students and myself. Over the classes I am taking I have little power. When it comes time to do homework, I have to be in "go" mode, focusing on nothing but working until I collapse.

It's not good for me to have boolean potential states, but at least this new revelation offers a little variety in my work habits. Perhaps as I come to grips with more of my power issues I can freely flow between work and relaxation modes.

Until then: WOOOOOOORRRRRKKKK playplayplayplayplayplay WOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKK

Quote for the day: "Are you some kind of robot? And if so, do you have super powers? Do you use them for good, or for awesome?"
