SAMPLES

FIRST PERSON:

What the hell!?

[There's silence for a moment before he clears his throat.]

This is Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. Unless you want to spend the rest of your life in prison on the charges of kidnapping, I suggest you tell me where I am.

((I recycled this from the last app I did with Edgey. I can write a new one if you want, but I'm lazy ^_^". I can't imagine anything else he'd say upon arriving in a new place like this.))

THIRD PERSON: Edgeworth knew his message would be taken literally by most of the world. He wondered how people would react - what people would think of him after the discovery. He didn't care in the slightest, of course, but it was a subject that occupied his mind nonetheless.

The people who knew of him would be surprised. He wasn't exactly the suicidal type. He wasn't exactly the anything type.

Perhaps the bastard type.

He smiled lightly, wondering if that would still be true after his return. It was a strange thing that Phoenix did- something Edgeworth never intended. Phoenix stirred something within Miles that, until now, he had either suppressed or forgotten. And now he had to leave because of it.

Everything he needed for his departure was in order. The files he would bring were ready for him whenever he decided to leave, his favorite teas were stashed away for the trip along with a pawn and a knight from his chess set, which had been placed in its proper order, and a few of his favorite books from the shelf had all been packed away in a briefcase near the door. When they searched his office, or even his home, no one would notice anything amiss.

Except perhaps Gumshoe, or even Franziska. He wouldn't admit it, but as much as this needed to be done, it pained Miles to leave them. They were both insufferable, of course, but they were still all he had. Gumshoe, Franziska, and Phoenix. Perhaps one of them would figure out the real meaning of his message.

Edgeworth opened the drawer in his desk and removed a pen from it's place, along with a piece of paper he had reserved for the occasion.

Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death.

Elegant handwriting. Obviously his own. Anyone who had ever seen a document or note written by him would have to have miserable vision to not recognize it. Laying the pen beside the paper, Edgeworth turned and left his office, grabbing his briefcase and coat on the way out. He didn't look back.

Maybe his friends would figure it out. The remaining people would take the news and run with it.

((Also recycled from previous app. In canon experience. Also also, sorry for all the edits. Was having HTML issues ^_^"))

Before making a decision on your application, I'd like to ask you to review your personality section. Although you are taking him from the beginning of the game, he still has quite a bit of personality, and I don't quite see that you've captured all of it there. There are quite a few things that have happened to him in the past that shaped him to be what he is today. As a whole, I'd like for you to go into a bit more detail and give examples as to why he acts a certain way.

As for the third person sample, it would be appreciated if you could write something from his current timeline instead of recycling something that happens later on.

I wish you the best of luck! You have three days to complete the revisions if you so wish to do them.

Personality Revision: In order to properly explain Edgeworth, I'll have to talk about his past. So if you are worried about spoilers, don't read this!

Anyway, Miles was a happy child. He lived with his father, who happened to be a defense attorney at the time. Miles has aspirations to one day be just like his father. That is, until he was murdered. Being robbed of the only thing he really had in his life, Miles transformed from a content child to a scarred man. His fear of earthquakes is an example that makes this point all too clear. More than a decade after the earthquake that lead to his father's murder, Edgeworth still grows faint at the slightest tremble of the earth. This proves to be his greatest weakness, as he is practically rendered useless at the mere thought of the event. He also avoids elevators for similar reasons relating to his father's murder.

After becoming an orphan, Miles was adopted by Manfred Von Karma, a man that can best be described as ruthless. For reasons unknown, he adopted Miles into his family and trained him to be a prosecutor. His years in Germany are not mentioned, but it could be suspected that they were full of intense training. With perfection highest on the priority list, with no room for error, Miles became extremely focused and even obsessive himself. He became a prosecutor at an incredibly young age, a prodigy, as it were.

Once he returned to his hometown to prosecute, he continuously made the papers. Gaining the reputation of being a "demon prosecutor", Miles Edgeworth had never, ever obtained anything other than a guilty verdict in his trials. Undoubtedly a genius, Miles hones his skills of logic and, supposedly, manipulation to win trials and condemn criminals without pity.

Outside of the courtroom, Miles lives alone. Being an extremely successful prosecutor, he treats himself rather generously. His office is decorated with only the highest quality furniture. Being an avid reader, his shelves are stocked full of books (mostly nonfiction). Though it's rare to find this man doing anything other than working (he spends late nights at the office), Edgeworth enjoys playing chess and drinking tea. He would never admit it, but he's a big fan of a children's television show called the Steel Samurai.

Although Miles usually responds to others with sarcasm, and even hostility, people tend to admire his outstanding fashion sense his deductive skills and there are even a few who believe that he isn't the merciless man he appears to be. Despite the fact that Edgeworth would say otherwise, he has a soft side. He is capable of having his emotions eased back into his being. He is caring of others, and though he tries to forget and ignore those around him, when something goes wrong, he will do his best to help (as nonchalantly as he can). At this point in the game, and most of the time after, he is determined not to show any weakness. Edgeworth is a pained man with a rather traumatic past.

He's quite serious, but lets his sarcastic sense of humor shine through with those he is familiar with. After a point, he will try (and most likely fail) to abide my social customs of friendliness, but those who know him realize this attempt and react accordingly. A good man at heart, Edgeworth is still young, despite his accomplishments. He is walking a fine line between right and wrong, and he's plenty aware of that. Ultimately an insecure character, all he needs is some proper guidance to help him walk away from his mentor's ways.

Really, there isn't much to Miles at this point, but he is full of potential. He's just a robot programmed for an immense desire for perfection. It isn't until that streak of perfection is broken that he begins to question his ways.

Third Person Revision: Miles Edgeworth stepped off the plane and onto the poorly ventilated gate that connected the aircraft to the building. Although he and the Von Karmas had flown private, the pilot had insisted they land in an actual airport. As he stepped into the terminal, he halfway expected to see a familiar face. After a brief glance around, he cursed himself for the foolish, fleeting hope. It had been over ten years since he had last been in an airport, and a lot had happened since then. Sure, he'd been taking cases in California for some time now, but they were simple and brief- not quite worthy of his attention, and he typically left soon after the case was complete. This time, however, he was in public. He didn't really expect anyone to recognize him. Not as Miles Edgeworth, at least. If they did, it was only from the papers announcing his return. He was famous, after all.

Not that he cared.

Manfred, his mentor, walked up beside him with Franziska soon in tow. She carried a textbook of past court cases and hearings. She had a habit of pointing out the flaws in the defendants that got away, often challenging Miles to catch the bluffs of the witnesses through the mere text alone. He did so without error, of course, as he was older and more experienced than she, though she still categorized him as inadequate. Mostly, he was tired of her games. He had a career now.

"Come here, Edgeworth. I have an assignment for you."

Miles obeyed, hastily bringing himself to attention before his mentor. Manfred handed him a file.

"This document contains all the names of the new defense attorneys in the county. Make sure you are familiar with them all."

Edgeworth accepted the file and nodded.

"Yes sir. I will not rest until I have memorized all the information at my disposal."

Immediately he flipped the file open and scanned the names, committing them to memory. He had to fight hesitation as he passed a familiar name. Hesitation was, after all, a sign of weakness, and was not acceptable.

Still, later that day after Edgeworth had retired to his room for the night, he couldn't help but check the file again in case he had somehow been mistaken. His first read through proved to be perfect, of course. Just as he remembered it, in 12pt font toward the end of the document, was a name he remembered all too well:

Phoenix Wright.
