Takeshi Shudo, the late writer of a bunch of anime stuff including the second movie, kept a blog as it turns out. I ran it through a translator and there’s some interesting stuff about Jiri. Basically he said that the movie called for a powerful villain…and he intentionally didn’t go that route. He also said (a direct quote, though cleaned up a bit from the translator) "If Mewtwo is Hamlet, Jirarudan is Don Quixote”.
