Earlier today, I popped along to the open day the Chesterfield Canal Trust were holding, following an archaeological dig to unearth two lost "Cuckoo" boats that were buried at the site of the old Staveley Basin. I've been watching the progress with interest but today was the first chance I had to go and see it for myself.
I was given a personal guided tour of the site and trenches by one of the men running the dig, who explained what I was looking at and the significance of the finds.
I also chatted with another member of the trust who went over the plans to join up the two ends of the canal again. There are only 9 miles left to go!
