I've decided to try something different with this thing. Posting. I may or may not keep this up for very long, but I've been inspired by my buddy Eric who dutifully blogs his blog everyday that maybe I should throw something on up here every now and then. I'll sort of follow his format but not too much as it's a little restrictive.
Dreams
I had a couple dreams last night, but there is only one that I really remember as I am writing this. I was talking to my friend Mark and he was telling me about this Mexican place that's really good in the Nashua Science Museum. I said that I didn't even realize Nashua had a science museum. In the dream I was thinking, I bet he will tell me what Exit it's off, because that's what Nashua people do, but that's OK, because that would be helpful. And he was like, it's off Exit 5. Then we decided to go there. When we got there the place looked like it was dying, and the Mexican place was closed. There was a tour group of little kids in the museum. Then Mark was like, that's OK, there's plenty for us to eat. And he gestured to a table full of snacks set up for the kids that were on the tour. I said, "I'm not taking any second graders snacks!". And then this guy that was with the group (he was a teacher or leader or something) was like, yeah that's probably a good thing. Later on when I was at home I saw a commercial on the TV for a private school in Chelmsford and I recognized the people from the museum in the commercial, so I figured out that the people must have been from this school. Later my mom was complaining about having to call some company in Colorado and she didn't want to have to pay long distance charges. Mark said that he could call the company from his cell phone and then do a three-way call to the landline so she wouldn't have to pay long-distance, but then stated that wouldn't work for some reason.
Dreams Explained
I'm not really sure where the science museum thing came from. It is interesting that my brain placed the museum as being at Exit 5, because that's the only Exit 1-7 that I can't remember where it actually goes. The Mexico food thing might have been because I was watching this show The Life of Tim the other day and in it he was trying to pass for a Latino, so he was only eating in Mexican restaurants. I think the Chelmsford thing might have been from me talking to Dave Z. on Friday about how he is working at the UPS Store in Chelmsford now. The calling the company in Colorado might be because I was watching this documentary on a shady company that would sign you up for things and then when you called to cancel they would give you the runaround, although the company was based outside Cincinnati, not in Colorado.
Other Stuff
Eric came out to spend a few days with me while I was home for break which was pretty cool. I enjoyed showing him around, and giving him a tour of my stomping grounds ( I was trying to think of a less cheesy sounding phrase, but couldn't come up with one that I felt coveyed the same thing). A lot of times in my head I think about how I would explain things to people if I were giving them a tour, so it was nice to have this chance. Hopefully I didn't overwhelm him with information, although he said he liked seeing where people grew up and so forth so I thought he would like it.
Now I am back at RIT, and I have a new roommate for the quarter which will be strange. Last quarter I had a roommate Nathan, but he never spent a single night at the apartment as he was always at his fiancee's (I assume). At first I was a little dissappointed I didn't get to spend more time with him before he graduated, but I grew to like having my own room. Now I am living with Allan, a guy I know from church, so I have to get used to living with a roommate again. Hopefully Allan will be a good roommate. Last year my roommate was Eric, and I felt like we just really clicked well, and he was always courteous about letting me go to bed when I needed to and just working downstairs if he was going to stay up late.
I also started new classes today. I'm taking Hardware Description Languages, Advanced Routing & Switching, and Beginning Arabic II. Hardware Desciption Languages seems like it will be an enjoyable class. Advanced Routing & Switching seems like it would be OK, but there seem to be a lot of weird, annoying kids in that class. I was sitting next to one kid that seemed like he could be Dwight Schrute's son or something. He seemed very oblivious to everything and would shout out his contributions and ask pointless questions of the professor. Beginning Arabic II was alright. THe professor was one I had for Beginning I last year and she recognized me. She was a very nice professor and pretty lenient. Unfortunately she is a little too lenient. There are two people in the class that said they had no knowledge of Arabic at all, and yet for some reason decided to take the second course in the sequence without taking the first. So we had to spend the whole class reviewing the alphabet. Instead of just telling them they need to take the prereq, she said she will try to get them up to speed. That really annoyed me, because it seems like it's really presumptious to try to skip a fundamental course when you have no knowledge of the subject at hand, and the rest of the class is slowed down as a result.
OK, I guess that's everything for now. Comment if you read this.
