Crackpot

We went to my parents' for the weekend.  They are sooooooo religious, and I have spent a lifetime fighting against that.  Yesterday at lunch, mom said "Oh, I got a letter from Dennis & Jeannie.  She is almost fully recovered from her coma."
"What Coma?"
"Oh, she almost died.  Her kidneys failed and she went into a diabetic coma for five days."
"Wow!  How did her sugar get that high?"
"They felt that God had healed her, so she stopped taking her insulin.  The last time we saw them, they were so happy because she felt so good.  Then this happened."

I couldn't speak.  I didn't want to get into an argument about the wisdom of endangering one's life in an attempt to prove faith.  The word Crackpot was on the tip of my tongue.  I wonder why they couldn't accept that sometimes when you pray for healing, God sends you a doctor.  When she wouldn't wake up, what did he do?  Did he stop and consider whether it was a weakness of faith to call an ambulance?  Where is the line for these people?  Or is she really just a Crackpot?

medical vs spiritual, parents, religion
