On Saturday I went to Tokyo Disneyland with my friends Yayoi and Jessica. I'd already been to DisneySea in November but was curious about Land, and because of the earthquake there have been some great specials in order to attract more visitors to the park. Yayoi was able to find a deal for 15700yen - this included the park admission, Nozomi shinkansen ticket both ways, and a 1000yen gift certificate for the nearby shopping area, Ikspiari. Normally the shinkansen ticket both ways ALONE is 20000yen and the park itself is 6200yen...it was a steal. :D
Light picspam and chat under the cut.
The park was having an Easter celebration until June 30th so there were lots of Easter eggs around and general Easter-themed Disney goods. It's completely commercial.
This is the first ride we went on was the Winnie the Pooh ride, which is different from the ride in Florida. This one basically has free-spinning honey pots that you sit in (no track) that go around the inside of the ride at random. It was so ridiculously cute.
It's a Small World is nearly the same as the American one, with more emphasis being given to the Japanese version of the song, of course.
Philharmagic is new to Tokyo, but it's been in Florida for several years I believe, because I remember going to it in 2007 (it may have been new then). Exactly the same as the original but dubbed in Japanese. Donald's voice is exactly the same XDDDD
The New Orleans area was right next to Pirates of the Caribbean. There was dixieland music all over and the whole area looked like a movie set. The above picture is where went to go find these things called "pirate rolls" - basically pork cutlets wrapped in a black tortilla with lettuce and some sort of salsas/mayo. It was delish <3
This was a day trip, so we caught the shinkansen at 7:40am and got to Tokyo around 9:10ish. We made it to the inside of the park by 10:30am. Unfortunately, Space Mountain was closed and a lot of the rides were out of fast passes for the day (>_<) We didn't get to go on Buzz Lightyear or Monsters Inc, which sucked, and we didn't even make it to half of the park. But we did get to ride a lot of the attractions. The mix of Japanese and English on some of them is pretty amusing, and I wonder how it affects the average Japanese visitor's experience at the park. They kept the original voices for some of the rides, like in the Haunted Mansion, and they even kept Walt Disney's face as one of the singing statue heads!! (>w<) I had fun pointing that out. As for food, I didn't think it was priced TOO badly - I paid 900yen for a set including a slice of pizza, four or five mini creme puffs, and a drink for lunch, and that pirate roll was 500yen. Oh, and it rained the majority of the time we were there but that didn't ruin the mood. (^^)
We had to make the 8pm shinkansen so we were a little pressed for time near the end, but we managed to have plenty of time to shop. I braved one of the main gift stores in order to pick up new phone straps for me and Will. As usual, Japanese people are CRAZY when it comes to Disney. You have to shove or be trampled. That part was actually kind of fun, I got to take some stress out on people by hitting them. :D (ok, light exaggeration, but I did push my way through a lot of people to get what I wanted)
(lol you can see my reflection XD)
The first one on the left is the one I already have. Side-by-side, the ears say "always" and "together" by the jewels. I know I mentioned this in my older journal, but in January or maybe March, the jewels began to fall out one by one and it made me want to cry (ToT) Now there's just three holes on the strap where they used to be. I considered buying a replacement when I found out I was going to get to go back to Tokyo Disney, and after consulting with Will about it he said it was a good idea (especially after he lost his phone at work a few months ago - someone returned it a couple days later but that was a sort of scary moment lol), so now we have a spare just in case. I think I'll leave my strap as it is for now and just change it up if I feel like it after I get home. For now I'll leave them both in the box. The strap set on the right is another one I bought, I think it's more gender neutral. Again, I think I'll wait to get back home before I do anything with them.
We had enough time to visit Ikspiari (kind of like Downtown Disney put into a tinier, multi-story shopping mall) and use our 1000yen vouchers before having to catch the train, so we found a bakery inside the mall and bought lots of bread for dinner. :D I had a corn dog for the first time in months, haha. All in all I didn't buy many souvenirs, just the phone straps, a cute Pirates thing for my cousin KC, and some pretty earrings for my mom. As expected, there wasn't any Ariel merchandise beyond some pins. I suppose the things that I bought were expensive so maybe that's why I didn't buy much - quality over quantity?
I heard from Mom today that my official graduation transcripts came in - I didn't realize there'd be something like that in the mail, I thought the online process was all but I guess I'm 100% good to go for graduation. Fuck my life, now I really have no motivation for class. Skipping one right now, actually, as I type this up.
Ordered a box of happy from Peach John yesterday to take advantage of their 10% off + free shipping sale online. It's pathetic that I'm ordering things when they're 10% off, but I know they won't be any cheaper. I'll post pictures of the mentionables when the package arrives later this week <3
