In the past week, I have...
- been randomly approached by an old woman in a small town who left her tiny house just to tell Shaina and me how pretty we are, that most of the foreigners she sees are so ugly but we were beautiful
- gotten into an elevator with two drunken salarymen and greeted warmly in a mixture of English and Japanese who were very happy we were in Japan
- had another two salarymen at an izakaya tell me they were drinking "Japanese green tea!" "alcohol!" in English and kanpai from across the two tables we were at - then one of them told me he was a sumo wrestler
- had random, non-understandable English shouted at me by a man in a suit getting off a train, and yet it was not derogatory and ended in "thank you"
Well, this slightly negates the image most people have that Japanese are frightened of foreigners. =|
daily goings-on,
complete randomity
