Regular boredom.
I watched some anime recently; finished Real Drive after hearing enough about it from
shimizu_hitomi and
suplexbeat ;). It was... whatever. Entirely normal anime, it could've replaced the technology bit with something conjured up in 5 minutes by a roomful of monkeys and I wouldn't have noticed. The ending made about as much sense to me as most of the rest of the show! Honestly, I was in it for the thighs.
Really.
I like thighs on anime girls.
...The More You Know.
Wouldn't rewatch for the life of me except maybe the Souta x Holon bits because D'AWWWWWW. I haven't seen anything make me go all girly for a while so it was a good refresher.
So then I started watching Tenkuu no Naureka-hime Xam'd because GODDAMMIT BONES YOU KNEW I FELL FOR THE SHINY ANIMATION AGAIN. That's how they got me to watch Eureka bloody Seven of all things, I'll have you know I stuck through all 50 episodes of it...
Xam'd is fun enough, though. I expected to dislike it more. Definitely much better than E7, for one thing it isn't ridiculously long and the characters are somewhat better written. But it's best enjoyed if you don't think about it too much (and that is precisely what I am doing currently)
Also, for the moment I love Ishu. Voice, lines, character design, the lot. I am particularly besotted with her ribbon and hair colour combination. As I mentioned to
suplexbeat it reminds me of cel anime paint colours, and Faye Valentine, although I don't care much for Faye really.
Predictably enough, I have the OP stuck in my head. I think Eureka 7 had better-conceived opening animation, but I do love the bit with Raigyo, I'm sorry but it IS cool, whether it's using the most obvious tricks in the book or not. Helps that the logo for this series kicks ass.
Also, I've been going through my few pieces of old art recently and came across this embarrassing shippy-tastic Dianna/Harry Turn A Gundam fanart.
I remember when drawing it that I spent forever on the digital "sketch" outline of it because I didn't want to replicate the original sketch, but never could get the nuance I wanted.
Am I making any sense here? I don't mean the details in particular; obviously they'd be different, but something about the closeness of the embrace. It's awfully tacky to think this way about my own art, but I can't help be fascinated by how differently I feel regarding each sketch. Then again, I get hopelessly attached to a lot of my art and am probably sounding like a specimen idiot right now. Right.
(And of course, magic Gundam series shades make
all the difference)
(Bonus: I bothered to take my tablet out and
test if the drivers were working. Conclusion: I still am not In The Mood.)
