And now that New Years' is out of the way, here's some old'd pictures.
But first, apologies for not being able to comment much on you guys' posts, I've been alternating between awfully busy, dead tired, and hopelessly braindead to go onto LJ (enough to talk crap on skype though, thanks for the the company
outofbrown: ever considered becoming a shrink?). I

I'm sure it's incredibly wet there! And I love that effect of the houses intermingled in the pine trees on the mountains--we have that a lot here, too. There is a lot of pine forest here in the foothills and it goes on for seemingly forever. Where I live with my mom, though, although it's only about fifteen minutes from my dad's, it's quite a bit lower in elevation and mostly populated with oak trees and has more scrub land. I feel bad about the human influence on the land as well, but I'm sure you know that. What's really sad is that the freeway that goes into my area from Sacramento and so on goes right through a lot of wildland (or at least wildland interspersed with houses on large lots of property, so more or less wildland) and as a result a great deal of roadkill takes place.
The 9th is actually going to work out! I'm still trying to figure out when we'll be able to leave, but let's say we could meet at tentatively 3 PM? I'll tell you at least a day in advance if the time changes or confirm if that'll be the time, but I think we should be leaving around/before noon so that should be good. (We're three hours away from San Francisco roughly.)
The tower is right in between the Kintetsu and Miyako malls, which are the main feature of Japantown so to speak. Here's a diagram from the site:
The site for Japantown is here, and you can see the tower on the sidebar! http://www.sfjapantown.org/shop.html
The address for the Miyako and Kintetsu malls is 1737 Post Street (San Francisco, CA and all that) so I think the best thing you could do is use Mapquest or Yahoo or Google Maps to find directions between where you're staying and that address. I would give you directions myself but I usually get lost on the way unless I have good directions so that would be a bad idea. XD It's not too hard to find, though, contrary to my experience getting lost, so if you end up lost or confused asking where the Japantown mall is should get you on the right track. :)
Oh, and my friend doesn't mind at all! I already talked to her about meeting up and the fact that you get tongue-tied/feel awkward socially and she said not to worry about it. You two have similar anime tastes as well so I'm sure you'll get along just fine! And if you feel really awkward and don't want to say much that's all right and we can just show you around Japantown and whatnot. The two of us both talk a lot generally so if you'd feel better just letting us do most of the talking (of course talking TO you, not like a conversation between the two of us where you're the third wheel) that's all right. I suspect that within a half-hour or so you'll find we're pretty easy to talk to, though, and things will be easier. I mean, I was able to talk to/communicate with my VERY shy and quiet Japanese exchange student when he hardly spoke English (and my conversational Japanese is...quite basic at best and was even worse back then), I think you'll be just fine. XD
That's rather amusing that he buys so much and doesn't watch much of it! I wish I had enough money to buy so much anime I can't watch it all. Perhaps I might if it weren't for my ridiculously exorbitant Pokémon collecting. I hope he gets around to it sometime--a lot of the classics are really enjoyable series.

Oh, and awesome re: the 9th! :D I was planning to meet up with another one of my friends on the 10th afternoon (2pm) so this kind of works out. Will you be staying on until the 10th morning or will you be going back on the 9th? (If so what time? Just so I'd let my brother know - really I don't like setting ending times for these things, although I could just take a train I suppose...)
Thanks so much for that incredibly helpful map. I think I can figure out how to get there :D
I normally seem really quiet and a bit dead but when I get into the mood I talk waaaay too much... which is usually annoying but I think everything will be fine :D I can't wait to meet up with you guys, whee!
And yeah, I dunno... he doesn't buy for personal enjoyment, maybe some kind of strange collector's thing... Guess he hears what's good and just gets it. He watched some bits of Wolf's Rain and Escaflowne with me though.

Great! Actually now I think we're leaving a bit earlier than noon so would 1 PM tomorrow be all right with you? If you were planning on 3 PM and would prefer that that is fine but otherwise 1 PM will give us more time to do things. :D
And we're spending the night in San Francisco--my friend's dad travels a lot for his work so he has a bunch of hotel points and we're staying in a nice hotel for the night for free. Actually, if you wanted to stay with us that would be perfectly fine--though I completely understand if you're uncomfortable with that. We're going to have a few friends over and probably just watch anime, talk, and be geeky in general. Assuming it's all right in your plans/with your brother, you can always see how it goes in Japantown and how tired you are and so on and see if you want to stay with us for the night--it's completely up to you and I figured I'd invite you because it might be fun. :)
Oh, I'm the exact same way about talking! I've been told I'm extremely quiet by people who don't know me, but if you do know me it's hard to get me to be quiet! I think we're going to get along amazingly, I'm really looking forward to meeting you!
I completely understand the collector impulse. A bit too well. *Stares accusingly at increasingly more and more insane Pokémon collection*

And whee! 1 PM is good too. :D I don't have anything planned for the morning.
Re: the hotel thing, that sounds positively awesome - but I guess it depends on how tired I am and everything, true, since I might get awfully anti-social and grumpy... but personally I don't have any plans for that evening, I mean I think my brother wants to go for dinner somewhere but he really works off a play-by-ear kind of thing, so does his friend, so it can just go as it does... Either I stay the night there or at my brother's friend's place, both ways I'd feel awfully indebted anyway so yeah. I'll just take along some clothes in case or something, we'll see.
And now I shall sleep well so I stay up a long time tomorrow... bit difficult considering it's 2:36am, we only got here half an hour ago (yay for planes getting super-delayed and bridges getting closed thanks to fog) and they're both playing Left 4 Dead until whatever 'o clock so uh.... I will try :v
