LAPTOP FIXED. Hallelujah, god save the king, etc.
Soooo SPN 8x03. Good news, everybody, I didn't like this episode. What a relief, right? Coming away from SPN feeling quite happy (albeit with a constant load of 'fingers in ears la la la' fanwanking) was just unsettling.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SPN WRITERS, what is it with you people and picnics? Why have picnics in parks with baskets and shit come to represent the Winchester Ideal Of Normalcy With Ladies?? It made me cringe with Dean in DALDOM and made me cringe even more now with awful glowy fashback glow and general awfulness. It really is like they just have these two stock characters that they keep flipping between. Next week: Dean starts drinking demon blood probably.
I just. WHEN I SAID I WANTED THINGS TO BE LIKE SEASON ONE AGAIN, THIS WASN'T WHAT I MEANT. And it's not even a total reversal to nonsensical season one style characterisation plus psychic powers. That, I could live with. That, I would probably let's face it be so deliriously happy about I wouldn't even notice how the past six years of Sam's character progression has been hastily swapped for picnics.
Dear SPN writers: stop confusing time jumps with character development.
My last two episodes worth of determined SAM QUIT HUNTING BECAUSE OF SADNESS fanwanking can only carry me so faaaaar. Give me some motiviation. Give me some Sam talks about or at least alludes to his feelings. Because in S1 Sam might have said he wanted a normal life and might have wanted to go back to college and might even have, god forbid, wanted picnics but we always knew why he was still riding in the car with Dean. He wanted revenge! He wanted MORE REVENGE THAN THE EYE CAN SEE! Revenge is like Sam Winchester's arc reactor! He built it in the burning remains of his girlfriend's flat with a box of scraps! I may be overstretching this metaphor!!
But why is Sam still riding in the car with Dean this time?
Okay, it's so they can find Kevin and get rid of all the demons ever, but if Sam has really spent a year shutting out all thoughts of demons and generally erasing his past life from his brain (WITH EXTREMIS! /tony stark metaphors) then I'm just not seeing his motivation and I am tired of fanwanking one.
SIIIIIIIIGH.
But I will keep watching for now because it's part of my Thursday night TV schedule with
theoret and shouting angrily about SPN with
theoret is quite a lot of fun.
(And because maybe there will be psychic powers!!!!!!)

Anyway, forget you SPN, the current lights of my TV life are Elementary and Arrow. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT ARROW, INTERNET. I love it so much already help me. We're only two episodes in and yet~
Ollie keeps taking his shirt off! He is a bit PTSDy and generally quite screwed up! Daddy issues! He wears green eyeshadow and it's really hot! (okay, not really green eyeshadow. Eye face camouflage mask makeup stuff.) Also green leather! Also bow and arrow! And he is morally grey and sort of a bit of a serial killer tbh because he just shoots people willynilly! And he has a hot stoic bodyguard called Dig who is just trying to his damn job despite his charge constantly disappearing on him and I ship it so hard!
(I am desperately hoping that at some point they will end up in some kind of non-superheroing hostage situation, a la Nightshifter or that one episode of Leverage or whathaveyou, and Ollie keeps trying to sneak off to use his superheroing skills to protect people and Dig is all GDIT STOP THAT because he is trying to protect people/Ollie too. (help help Dig is the only one doesn't have any run your fathers company/be more like your father/be more like the guy you were five years ago expectations of Ollie all he is expects of Ollie is to let Dig do his bodyguarding job help me help meeee.))
Also Ollie has a younger sister who was 12 when he disappeared and is now 17 so she's blossomed into a hottie and is a bit of a wild child what with having lost her dad and brother at such a young age etc, if hetcest is more your thing. LORD KNOWS IT'S THEOS THING.
And Katie Cassidy is in it as a... lawyer type thing, who fights angrily for justice and is generally really angry and glares out at the world in an attractive manner! She is hopefully going to wind up as Black Canary, so potential Katie Cassidy superhero, I'm just saying. And her dad is a Good Cop who is nevertheless an antagonist because he thinks Green Arrow is a psycho, which is a legitimate concern. I love antagonists who are on the side of good!
And Ollie takes his shirt off a lot, okay, guys.
A. LOT. (And he's covered in horrible scars from his time on the island, which is another thing I enjoy.)
So yeah. COME WATCH ARROW WITH ME! It is not by any stretch of the imagination a televisual masterpiece but boy is it fun and boy is everyone attractive.
