For many of them, it also teaches valuable delegation skills (parents, do the work!) which will clearly aid them later in life. Right? ;)

In my experience, both in Girl Scouts and in Destination Imagination, by the time kids are this age the parents are already distressingly well trained to do the work that their kids could be doing. And any work the kids _can_ do, they _should_ do. But short-sighted parents would rather do something themselves quickly and get it over with than watch their kids do the same thing themselves, just more slowly.
