30-DAY SMOOTHIES NOTES -- WEEK 1/Theme: Superfoods

Oct 13, 2013 11:32

Better late than never? Amusingly, I've been going through this entire months' challenge, walking down them and figuring out if there is anything I'm so deeply in love with I'd like to take with me to share with the girls at the end of this month. Which has made discovery and trying it a little more fun and exciting lately.

Orange Jewels | Serves 2
2 cups spinach, fresh
1 ½ cups almond milk, unsweetened
1 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 banana
2 oranges, peeled
1 cup pineapple
2 teaspoons spiraling, optional
This one was good, but a sort of normal good I've come to be used to. It's not quite anything to write back home about, but it was definitely one I wouldn't mind having on hand for the rest of forever in a general pre-work morning week.

Fallin’ for Apples | Serves 2
2 cups spinach, fresh
1 ½ cups almond milk, unsweetened
2 apples
1 pear
1 banana
2 teaspoons probiotics, optional
This one was good, but it was too thick. (I think this was about when I started realizing I like my smoothies like thick like a milkshake and started adding an extra half cup of water to full cup, making it more a thin drinkable fruit drink even when it's in my bottle).

Vote: 2 stars

Great Ginger Zinger | Serves 2
2 cups kale, fresh
1 ½ cups water
½ inch piece ginger, peeled
2 oranges
2 pears
½ avocado
This was the one I tried first, using thawed frozen ginger for the first time (from the ginger ice cubes of last time), and I was very surprised to end up liking this one. Which isn't a far stretch for most people, but I usually cannot abide the taste of raw ginger without tasting soap, soap, and only soap. Thankfully, this was a little more like smoothie with a hint of chai drink ginger barely there and absolutely no soap.

Vote: 3 stars

Berry Cold Fighter | Serves 2
2 cups kale, fresh
2 cups water
1 banana
1 cup pineapple
2 cups mixed berries
(strawberries, blueberries and raspberries)
2 teaspoons elderberry extract, optional
I saved this one to last, which is nearly the same as saying I pushed it until last, because it looked boring and like the kind of thing I make all the time. And I was wrong. Because when I made it it was delightful and amazing far more than I'd expected at all.

Vote: 4 stars

Basil Orange Blast | Serves 2
2 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
¼ cup basil
2 oranges
1 pear
1 cup grapes
I remember this one being good, but I don't remember anything specific about it. I always think I should add more herbs to my smoothies, when I'm drink ones with herbs, because they do add such a kick, but I don't remember being impossibly and importantly floored by this one.
