Thoughts: Some managers are horrible while others are just doing their job.
More Thoughts: It is really a love/hate relationship the more I think about it.
Sill though, I don't condone managers for being aggressive with fans out of spite.
Managers = Not Totally Condemned
HOWEVER, people shouldn’t condemn the entirety of them. There will always be a love/hate relationship between the managers and the fans. First of all, their jobs are difficult and they have rules they must follow from the company. It’s not like they’re doing things on their own prerogative. And I honestly think people don’t give them enough credit sometimes. And as for their actions, sometimes, they just don’t have a choice.
→ They have to constantly manage the boys with their schedules and their events, timing here is everything (time constraints and such).
→ They have to make sure they’re where they should be, constantly driving them around, and always dealing with the fans who won’t listen to what they have to say about backing off and “no pictures” and “no signatures” and those who follow them around period (stalkers, saesangs).
→ They also have to deal with everyone’s characters (I’m sure the boys get into disagreements with each other some days), taking care of each individual (health-wise; what they can eat or can’t eat since they might have allergies, medical conditions), and since he lives with them, he’s mainly in charge of waking everyone up and therefore, wakes up much earlier than the members making sure they’ll be on time/not late as they get ready and checking over the schedule before the start of the day.
→ They also have to deal with monitoring them on shows (a constant reminder that each and every move they make is carefully watched with hawk-like precision) and instructing them with what to say and what not to say, what to do and what not to do.
→ And so much more, really.
And they most likely do not enjoy getting physical with some fans (for those that do though, they're douche's to the max), especially when they could be people they know (it could be their very own children or their children’s friends or even the children of their own personal friends).
As for keeping everything on time, take the airport incidents, for example - what if EXO had a schedule they needed to report to such as practice sessions for their comeback, studio time, photo-shoots, rehearsals, interviews, or just another prior engagement. Their precious time is then hindered and therefore, they won’t have enough time so they get overworked, and then, they won’t get enough sleep and the rest time they could’ve had is then used up.
Or in the case of what if Luhan, Kai, Lay, Xiumin, or any one of the members had gotten hurt due to just traveling at the airports with all of its rabid fans: then their schedule would have had to be re-arranged. The members would have to do whatever was on their schedule minus one or two, then that (those) certain member(s) would feel horrible for being a burden to the group since he (or they) would have had to spend extra time recovering and practicing late (which is what no one wants: the company and the us fans).
This is why some managers act the way they do when some fans are the way they are. They get less sleep than the members and they also have a lot of work to do. For a new group, the managers are also the most mindful of people in the industry/people they work with (cameramen, photographers, PD’s, writers, DJ’s, and such) and thus, have to to showcase EXO in a more-than-positive way so that their group is represented in the best light possible. Also, THEY KNOW THEY’RE GOING TO GET HATE (A LOT OF IT). So even though they get cursed at and are labeled as horrible people, it’s just how it is and they just have to keep doing it this way if some of the fans continue to act like maniacal fan-girls, especially in these situations where it’s so unpredictable: things can get out-of-hand in a matter of seconds.
All in all, I’m not saying what they did was right (getting violent with fans), but honestly, some managers wouldn’t have to act that way if some fans could just keep themselves under control over seeing their idols.
À la prochaine, H
