August the 18th, 19th, and 20th: *runs around packing*

Aug 20, 2010 22:50

Been cranky the past few days since, and this happens every time I move in, after all my packing I realize I have just so. much. stuff. Really frustrating since I don't want a lot of stuff but some things, like the mini fridge and linens do take up a lot of space. Trying to calm myself down my rationalizing that I am packing for more or less 8 months away, school is in the mountains so I need some summer stuff, lots of fall stuff and some of my heavy winter clothing before fall break*, and I've cut back as much as I can. Ugh, it turns into self-deprecation pretty fast, probably from reading all those fantasy novels where characters do seem to manage with everything they can carry in their packs** and that's just B.S. Plus I had to go art supply shopping today and A) Not only is stuff expensive (I'm looking at YOU Mr. S9x-pack-of-mini-acrylics-that-was-$25!) but B) it takes up even more room (14" by 17" sketchbooks are rather large). And the class does sound like "Fundamentals Art I," so fundamental in fact it's sounding rather similar to my art class FIVE YEARS AGO as a FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL.

You see? That's pretty much been me for the past few days, annoyed at myself and the world in general and not finding much to do about it. Sure there have been plenty of nice things the past few days (like my last day at the Bookstore, will miss them and I really hope that they can give me a good recommendation for working at the library) and I've been keeping myself entertained with anime, sewing, and Sherlock Holmes (stories and the Granada tv show) but really preoccupied with packing and getting up tomorrow. Probably going to go to bed soon and get up early tomorrow to finish odds and ends (dear lord, do how am I going to find clean underwear tomorrow? Gahhh, not one of my better moments). So, off to decompress a little more and then it's bed for me.

*Last year I paid attention to the advise of "don't bring winter clothes until fall break" and discovered that that advice is meant for people who aren't moving into the mountains. It's worse that I can't bring the stuff back home in March since it can and will snow in April (hell, it's snowed every month except July up there and I believe it!).
**Which is even weirder when you remember that a rule of thumb is to carry a pack no heavier than 1/5th your body weight, or does that only apply to bookbags for school kids?
