"I don't understand," Eglamore said with a huff. "This is all ridiculous."
Jones shrugged as it seemed to be the proper response to James' statement "Johnathon's ploy to deprive Antimony and Reynardine of the privileges appears to have backfired," she commented. "Now that Coyote has chosen her as the medium to the Forest, there's little need for me to continue her instruction."
"Ysengrim nearly killed Annie the last time they were in the forest together!" James shouted as he threw his arms up in the air. "She can't be going in there alone!"
"Coyote will not permit any harm to befall her," Jones said in what almost sounded like a reassuring tone as she took two large suitcases from her closet. "Antimony told me what has happened. I believe Coyote will take steps to ensure that will never happen again."
Eglamore eyed the suitcases and let out another small grunt. "And now you're leaving too."
"There's little for me to do here now that a medium has been chosen," Jones replied. "Andrew is well versed with the denizens of the forest. With his abilities he should be fine. And with Parley as his protector I expect them to represent the Court adequately."
"I thought you were going to stay," Eglamore said flopping down on a chair. "You said you would always be here for me."
Jones put down the suitcase and turned her attention to the man sitting before her. It wasn't long ago (30 years at least) that she had brought him to the court. It was a short time still that he had made that promise to James. It was right after Surma had left him for Antimony's father.
Judging by Eglamore's tone of voice and body language, it was obvious he was nursing hurt feelings. Jones walked over and rubbed the top of his head, not unlike a mother might have done to nurture a sulking child.
"I won't be far, James," she said calmly. "And if something should come up, I'm only going to be on the other side of the Atlantic."
"I don't have to like it," he grumbled as he pulled his head away. "Where are you going anyway?"
"Another school. Not unlike this one though perhaps a bit... odd. And with less robots I'm told," Jones replied as she turned back to her packing. "It's called Fandom."
Eglamore frowned a little at that. "Sounds like a fairly odd name for a school."
If Jones knew how to laugh, now would have been an appropriate time to start. "I believe... the name of the school will be the least of my worries."
Eglamore spent the next week being bothersome, though Jones never showed any annoyance as she began to pack her belongings. He would eventually need to start his work with Parley and Jones expected the transition to Fandom to be quick and relatively easy.
Clearly she had no idea what the island had set for her.
