The TL;DR version:
- Jones comes from the webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court
- She's an immortal being who is virtually indestructible with incredible strength
- Most of that comes from being incredibly dense and heavy. She doesn't like to call attention to it.
- Jones doesn't really have emotions. Or at least not like normal people do. She claims that all her behavior is learned through close observation and mimicry
- She does occasionally find a person that she finds interesting and will spend her life with him or her in a motherly fashion. Once that person passes on she will take that person's name in memory of him or her.
- She is coming to Fandom from Gunnerkrigg Court (A place not unlike Fandom) after Chapter 41 of the webcomic.
The Long Version:
Jones has been around the Earth almost since its formation in the Hadeon period. She was buried in magma and awakened during the Silurian period at the bottom of the ocean. She spent millions of years walking the earth until human life evolved. Even though she looked human, Jones knew that humans were quite different from her. She took on a role of an observer and did her best not to interfere with history. If you want to get an idea of how long Jones has been around and her involvement in history
start here and go backwards to the start of the chapter.
At some point in her history, Jones discovered Gunnerkrigg Court. The Court is an institution located somewhere in the United Kingdom which resembles a large urban environment. Even though it appears to be technology driven, the Court has been working towards harvesting etheric (ie "magic") energy to their own mysterious end. On the opposite side of the court is Gillitie Wood, a forest filled with magical creatures and lead by the Native American god, Coyote.
As part of the court, there is a boarding school established there for children of the court members. In return for providing Jones a place to stay (and to be a subject of their scientific research), Jones has taken on an advisor/teaching role at the school. Her main job there is to train certain students with etheric abilities to become a mediums between the inhabitants of the forest and the Court. However after Chapter 41, Jones' role changed due to the fact that the Headmaster pulled a dick move. I'm using this as my way of bringing Jones here for the fun and games that is Fandom.
While Jones can pass as human, anyone spending any amount of time with Jones will note that she isn't exactly normal. She does not have emotions like a typical human. In fact the only thing that drives is a general sense of curiosity.
As for abilities: Jones is incredibly dense. She can break or shape with barely any effort. She can't be harmed (or at least hasn't been harmed yet) by anything on the planet magical or otherwise. As a result of her strength and mannerisms she's often been mistaken for being a robot. How this will play out in Fandom, I'm not sure but I won't be planning on her being attacked with warriors with lightsabers or laser blasters any time soon.
The Class:
Jones will be teaching an Independent Study course for students. The plan is that each student will be coming up with their own area of study with the purpose of improving their own homeworld or timeline. In the end the research or project could be anything. From building an invention or writing and performing a ridiculous sketch. Either way the class will be presenting their projects to the rest of the school at the end of the semester.
Along the way, Jones will be interacting with each student and helping their project along as well as evaluating each student on their personalities and abilities. Some of these will make sense (Brainstorming, Research techniques, etc.) and some will not (Danger Shop simulations where they battle B-movie aliens.) Either way I hope to make it fun.
Finally: I've chosen Anna Torv as Jones' PB. She's a little tall to play Jones but in almost all of her Fringe promotion photos she never smiles. Which is good because Jones never smiles.
You don't want to see Jones smile. You've been warned.
