Good questions, my good friend.

Are you asking because you are interested in coming along for the ride or are you clarifying the commitment made by the Shh and myself? (The answers would differ, of course.)

For the Shh and myself:

Yes, they must all be read in order. And yes, we will re-read the ones we've already read.

For our fellow readers and occasional companions in this journey:

I'd say that yes, they need to be read in order, if for no other purpose than camaraderie and discussion. If people want to join us sporadically, they could and should. Must they re-read the books they've already read? I think that would be up to the individual reader.

What do you think, sg_beany? Do we want company along the way?

We would love the company! And possibly some encouragement to keep going :) Please, do drop in sometime...we'll let you know what book we're presently on and you can just jump right in!

I applaud your efforts and await your confirmation of their excellence and your recommendations for *must reads*.

BTW - tell Ant I HATE it when my elbows go to sleep before I do!

I would like to read the Caldecotts, too. Maybe we'll do those after the Newberys. (Or in the midst of them if we feel bogged down in our quest.)

The main reason I wanted to do this is because when I looked over the list of winners, I recognized very few titles. Well, that's not true ... I recognized a lot of them, but have read so few of them. I'm excited to experience all of them and look forward to hearing your thoughts and comments and memories along the way. :)

Fantastic. We're talking of creating a blog just for this project where we can post our thoughts on the books and have a list of "must reads". What do you think?

I'm surprised, reading the list, at how many of the winners I *have* read. Nowhere near the whole list, but a good many...esp. many a forgotten favorite, like Caddie Woodlawn! I don't remember one damn thing about the book, but I remember I loved it :)

I've only read 12 of them. So very sad. And I don't remember most of them. Except that I remember Onion John made me cry. (I was realizing that all of the books I remember reading when I was a child are books that made me cry. Strange, huh?)

We actually went ahead and just created an LJ community, since we're both already on here. (Not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place.)

I'll have to check out LibraryThing. (And I must mention that I feel guilty when I am referred to library-related activities/sites/whatever and haven't already heard of them. Makes me feel like an incompetent librarian. Silly, huh?)

1. Glad. I was in a weird mood.
2. Love your rules. Happy to quote them.
3. TOTALLY DUTCH. Born in Rotterdam. (Thank you, Wiki.) HAPPY!!!
4. You MUST join us. If for no other reason than the above information. The first man to win a Newbery was born in Holland! How cool is that?! I would be willing to get you another copy of the book from the library if that's all it would take. Please, please, please? We want company. (Do it! Do it!!!)
5. no comment

I'm in. IF the first man to win a Newbery (how can you type that with only one R?!), I should AT MINIMUM read his book, no?

Yes, bring another copy from the library :)

Dorks all around.

YAY!!! Woo-hoo!!! Our first convert. No ... that's not the right word ... it needs to imply more of a brain-washing-your-life-is-ours cult-type situation. Our first follower? ______? I don't know, I'm at a loss.

Your copy has been requested from the library.

sg_beany will be so excited!!!
