In an attempt to catch up

My posting status as of late has been deplorable. My apologies.

And so, in an attempt to catch everyone up...

1. I took a position as a library tech at an elementary school. (I'm not officially a librarian because I don't have my master's in library sciences, but that's the role I'm filling.) I'm really enjoying being around the kids and am ( Read more... )

The job sounds fun! How long a contract is it? Is it a school you'd want to teach at, if a position came open?

It's just a year-long contract, although I'm sure I could continue next year, if all goes well. It's definitely a school I'd want to teach at, but I'm not sure the principal would hire me without a license ... even if she liked me. What with all the testing these days, it'd be a risk. But it's such a great school in so many ways ... the principal is great and the school is really diverse. It'd be a great place to start, even though I think I want to teach high school. Experience is experience, right?

I guess we'll see where I am at the end of this year.

You can teach without a teaching degree? I don't think jessibud November 12 2006, 12:52:48 UTC
you could do that here. At least, I'm not sure. For sure not at the elementary level.

I did do a bit of subbing in high school (about 3 days' worth, lol!) when I was still in Montreal and that was long before I got my degree. It was enough to convince me that I'd NEVER step foot again inside a high school, though, lol!

The library job does sound great, though. Congrats again and enjoy! And you are right about the connections. You can never have too many good references; you never know where they will lead!

Heehee. I've got you beat already. Driving with my mom and brother all the way up to Montana in what is sure to be snow and wind, freezing cold b/c I'm the only cold-blooded member of my family, and spending the holidays with 36 people all staying under the same roof - cousins and their kids and their dogs everywhere. How could I skip out on that?! ;)
