He waits for elevator doors to slide open with breath firmly held.
This is great imagery, as I can almost imagine him doing just that. Short sentence but a very powerful one despite it.
Still can't stop the words from biting... “Should've let you bleed out...”
I can see where the prompt of cruel fits in, lol, but at the same time in love that line just because it's not nice dialogue or beating around the bush dialogue. It's out there and it's raw and it's perfect.

AND, I just remembered that I'm going away this Friday afternoon (Thursday afternoon!!! American time) and I don't come back until Sunday evening and THERE WILL BE ZERO INTERNET.
There will be hot boys on bikes and ridiculous awesome scenery that it will be my job to photograph, so, can't really complain too much, but... bah! I'll have to wait TWO DAYS!!

OMFG! That is extreme! I actually physically flinched when I read it (and not, note, because of the characterization of Mark; but on Alex's behalf and, for want of a less obvious adjective, the absolute cruelty of it).
There's no doubt that Mark is flawed and can be a bastard sometimes and I can actually see him saying something like this. But I loved what lay below the surface cruelty:
Can barely separate the rumble of speaking from the perpetual soundtrack of unholy agony that loops and repeats through his skull. Volume set squarely to self destruct.
To me, outwardly being an ass (even to this level), while inwardly tearing himself apart with feelings that he half-acknowledges half-conceals even from himself is a crucial facet of Mark's character.
I will not de-friend you. I'm really impressed with this. I read it three times before commenting, because it has such an impact and because I wanted to make sure I got everything (which is quite an achievement for 100 words).

I really felt like this needed some kind of disclaimer that explained the motivations behind what was being said and done and why...!
