Wow! I hadn't expected that. I mean, I ship them like crazy, but I always do that, so it's par for the course. Nico is just so incredibly cute. And Rae deserves someone who really loves her, and Finn is insecure, too. I love how insecure everyone on this show is, really. Even Kester.

Oh, they're popular alright, but I know you (a little). So I hadn't expected you to ship anyone. There are 300 fics on ao3 and they're almost all Rae/Finn. 300 is an amazingly high number for such a short and relatively obscure show, too.

Rae is such a great character on her own that I wouldn't be surprised that people like her as she is. I mean, looking at it logically, we know next to nothing about Finn, except that he loves Rae. Just as she is. The whole package.

That is not really a good argument for liking the character. And I don't mean that she's not lovable, but that there is nothing else we know about him. We still don't even know what he likes about her. Damn those boys who can't talk about their feelings. ;) But she needs love like that so much, which just makes it easier to ship them. I just want all the good things to happen to her, and he is so very good for her.

I know there's still a huge gap between knowing people in RL and on LJ, but LJ (and its clones) does a lot better than *any other* online platform I've ever been on. You really can get to know people quite well here, which is why I'm not leaving no matter where everyone else goes. Nothing else comes close when it comes to furthering discussion and giving everyone their own space at the same time.

Plus, well, HE IS SUPER CUTE, OKAY! That helps! Haha!

I've been thinking about how important music is on this show. It's funny, actually, since Rae Earl is really close to me in age, and thus all the music she liked as a teenager also influenced me a lot. Now that they decided to move the show to the nineties, that effect has lessened quite a bit for me. As you said, the show has all the songs from your youth - but it doesn't have the ones from my youth anymore. I mean, I can understand why they decided to move it - expanding their viewer base makes sense, and everyone who's lived through the 80s has obviously also lived through the 90s - but still, 80s music has had a much more profound influence on me than 90s music. So I'm a bit wistful about that. I just don't have a major emotional connection to Oasis. *g*

Overall, it doesn't hurt, though. I can still appreciate it. (And I can read the original diary and identify with that. :D)

Oooh, yeah, that would make a difference for you. The Rae in the show is one year older than me and so the music is pretty much exactly in line with what I was listening to (though I did tend to have a lot of Australian bands mixed in - Silverchair, Powderfinger, Garbage etc). But yeah, Oasis. OASIS. I have SO MANY Oasis ~feels. Those guys and Silverchair were my teens!! Silverchair were quite similar to Oasis in lots of ways, too. And obviously the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys were HUGE. I wasn't really into either of them, but my BFF was ALL ABOUT Backstreet Boys so I knew ALL their music and have danced to it A LOT!

OMG you're asking me? Phew. I remember her complaining about Jive Bunny a lot (and her mum asking when their next single was coming out, hee).

Really funny was her saying "I didn't know the bloke from Soft Cell made a record with Gene Pitney", and we'd just that night seen a music video of Soft Cell and realized that Marc Almond was their singer. We hadn't known the band before. We only knew that Marc Almond and Gene Pitney had that one big hit. :D

She also mentioned something about how Sting "must feel pretty embarrassed about 'Russians'" after the Berlin Wall fell. Hee. Typical Rae humour.

She talks about music *a lot* anyway, and writes down what mix tapes she's made, and how some songs just describe her life, her loneliness, how boring it is to live in Lincolnshire, that kind of thing. A lot of it is wasted on me, but I do recognize some of the songs she mentions.
