I managed to do this two weeks in a row. Though no one may notice or care, I'm rather proud of myself. This week I watched the end of two Korean dramas: Birth of a Beauty and Pride and Prejudice. I also watched episodes of the TNT series The Libarians and two ABC shows: Agent Carter and Galavant. Of course, I also watched the newest episode of the BBC's The Musketeers. Find out what I thought of them after the cut.
January 11th: (Sunday)
The Libarians - This week TNT aired two episodes, episode seven and episode eight. (Though, they are also out of order) They were good in terms of character development for Cassandra and had some cute moments for the gang. The first episode also introduced us to someone who I hope is a recurring villain in future seasons.
The first episode had the Liberians investigating a STEM fair, where experiments are acting weirdly. We got a little more background on Cassie (she dropped out of school when she got sick and destroyed her old trophies and prizes). Ezekiel remains a mystery; little hints about his background are often dropped but never explored. I hope it is leading to something big. Speaking of Cassandra and Ezekiel - they had a lot of really sweet moments in episode seven. I may be all about Cassandra/Jake, but I completely see the appeal of Ezekiel/Cassandra. Oh, and please do let Morgan recurring in season two. Such a great villain. Loved the stuff between her and Eve.
Episode eight gave us even more great stuff with Cassandra. I loved that she saved the day! I love that she found the answers, while everyone else was just rushing in. Speaking of that - Jake is supposed to have an IQ of 190. So, why is his answer always violence? Other than Cassandra saving the day, the episode felt a bit blah.
Next week’s two hour season finale looks great, though.
Galavant - Tonight episodes three and four aired as a one-hour show. I think they are doing that will all the episodes, which is great. The show continues to be a witty, tongue-in-cheek, and charming adventure. The songs are catchy and always a bit weird, but that is part of the fun. I’m also enjoying the character development and the bits of depth we get every week.
January 12th: (Monday)
Birth of a Beauty - The last two episodes of this Korean drama aired this week. I don’t have too much to say about it. It started off as a comedy with elements of romance and melodrama; a revenge story that didn’t take itself too seriously, despite the whole ‘my husband tried to murder me and now thinks I’m dead and has married his mistress’ plot point. It was twenty-one episodes (for some reason it had a one episode extension.), and it honestly started to get over dramatic and sort of out of character by episode seventeen. This is a drama that could have easily been sixteen or eighteen episodes long. Still, it was rather enjoyable throughout the first two thirds. I would certainly recommend it.
January 13th: (Tuesday)
Agent Carter - Episode three of the limited series. Peggy and Jarvis continue to be an amazing team. And the show is very enjoyable. I thought this week was a bit slower than the last two episodes, but it still had some nice development for the characters and overall story arcs.
January 14th: (Wednesday)
Pride and Prejudice - Episodes twenty and twenty-one of the Korean law/human drama. I usually don’t go into law dramas, because the cases of the week bother me. However, this drama was different. It was more human drama than law; with a lot of character moments and development. It was a great mystery to follow along with. I adored most of the characters and the romance was just enough to make me smile. People are already ready for a second season, though I doubt that will happen anytime soon - the male lead is off to the army this summer.
January 15th: (Thursday)
N/A - I started school on Wednesday and on Thursdays I have class until 7:50. It was: go home, eat, shower, do some homework, and bed.
January 16th: (Friday)
The Musketeers - Episode three of season/series two. This episode seemed to have divided a lot of people. I thought there was some great development for future story lines. While Treville, Athos, and D'Artagnan didn’t have much to do this week, the others had several things going on.
Porthos got a bit of the spot light this week. I really enjoyed his interactions with Samara. It had a nice “friendship, but it’s cool if there is more later” feel to it. Though, I wish Porthos’ stories weren’t always about his skin color. His family background and past have been hinted at - and that sounds like an amazing story to tell. They have hinted that they might go there this series, and I really hope they do.
Constance continues to be amazing in every way; she saved the baby with common sense. I also really like that she seems wary of Rochefort. I think they could do a lot with Rochefort and Constance being around Anne and helping (or not helping) her deal with some of the drama that is coming. But back to Constance, she is just such a great character and I think we saw how all the ladies in the court seem to have grown to respect her and her opinions. I’m also so happy she is getting stories outside of her romance with
D’Artagnan.
Aramis is currently somewhere between “I feel really sorry for you” and “You need to stop”. I wasn’t thrilled that he was using Marguerite to see the baby. And when that baby got sick, he really screwed things up with the exchange. Plus, he’s creeping around the baby/queen’s quarters. And, I’m just sitting here thinking: NO. He could get into major trouble; he could get himself killed. He could get Anne into major trouble. We all know King Louis wouldn’t stand for it if he thought she was having an affair. And, if things weren’t going well - he does love to blame her because she’s Spanish. I know Aramis is supposed to spend this season/series being in pain, because he can’t be with the woman he loves and their child. I know that. I just wish he’d be smarter about how he goes about this secret. He should ask D'Artagnan how to have secret meetings with women.
Other the other side of things, we have the Milady/King Louis/Queen Anne/Rochefort story line. Oh, I have some many thoughts on this. Some of which are most likely not popular. Let me start with the Milady and King Louis stuff.
So, I understand that Louis sees Milady as this angel of mercy, who saved his life. I get that. I also understand that Milady will do anything she needs to get what she wants. And right now, she needs/wants to become a mistress of the King. Get that. But, I was so hoping Louis had grown after Anne’s near death in series one and the birth of the baby this series. But, he seems to have become more bratty and immature with the death of the Cardinal. He completely ignores the great advice that Treville gives him and he’s turned completely to Rochefort. Plus, I thought it was so gross that he had sex with Milady and was laughing with her - while his wife was crying upstairs, as their son died. That was tacky. Are we supposed to like Louis? I thought I liked him in season/series one, but these last three episodes. . .he’s been such an ass.
Since the first episode of the series/season I’ve had a feeling that Rochefort is in love with Queen Anne. His role play with the hooker dressed as Anne was both creepy and pathetic. His “I love you. . . as any subject loves his Queen.” Was just sad. Rochefort is someone I have mixed feelings about - he appears to be doing a lot of things in order to get rid of Louis and have Anne for himself. (Hitting Constance was not cool, but I sort of get the anger.) I feel like Rochefort is in love with who Anne was when she was fourteen; who he’s made her out to be in his mind. He’s obsessed with who she is as a grown woman. It’s pathetic and in ways I feel sorry for him. And yet, I know that things could turn ugly very fast. Even if Anne went to him as a lover, he wouldn’t be happy. She couldn’t live up to his ideal, and he’d end up hurting her in some way. I feel like Rochefort is doing everything to get close to Anne and get her love. . .and it just isn’t going to happy. I think Anne looks at him as her childhood crush/tutor/friend.
In regards to Anne. . . I felt so sorry for her when she walked in on Louis and Milady. Yes, she has cheated with Aramis. However, she thought she was going to die and she didn’t cheat while her son was dying upstairs. Since the birth of the baby, I honestly think Anne has been trying to be a better person: she’s been trying to be a good mother and to make her marriage work. I dare say she had even come to care about Louis as, at the very least, a co-parent and close friend. But, to walk in on him post-sex with another woman while their son is near death. I hope they go back to that, because that feels like huge betrayal. At least wait until the baby is better. I feel like Anne really feels alone right now, and I don’t think that will change anytime soon. She must feel like she can’t get close to anyone, least the secret about the baby and Aramis come out. Now, her husband is off with Milady. And while she does have Constance, Constance is close to all the Musketeers. . .it could be a bit dangerous if things are said. That just leaves Rochefort. That won’t end well.
