I love thunderstorms.
I LOVE thunderstorms!!!!
In Japan, they have some thunder, but that's like once a year or something...but there have been a lot around WNY!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!
So there was a thunderstorm the other night - Saturday night was it? I really needed to be outside; R and I had been inside all day and I just wanted to go for a walk...on the beach or through the park or something...and I told Rob so.
To which he responded, "I know the PERFECT place!"
So we get in the van and drive to a park, grab the sparkling grape juice (to celebrate his last day of work) and head down the path...excited, young, in love, yada yada yada...
And about 5 yards down the path, the rain starts...not just sprinkling, but DOWNPOUR. We keep walking - still gonna find that "perfect" place to watch the storm.
Rain...Rain...Rain...Torrential...
We walked past a few boats and said, "stinks to be them!" as we're walking down a sketchy dirt path surrounded by trees in the middle of a lightening storm as we're being drenched by torrential rainfall...
Lightening striking all around - it was actually getting closer instead of further away...
We kept walking...until the trees started thinning out...and then we came upon a small clearing, on the other side of which lies our destination: the bridge.
We get to about 20 yards away (not even, I'll bet) - we've braved puddles, soggy shoes, lightening and thunder all around us...and when we finally arrive at the end of our perilous journey we TURN AROUND and RUN FOR OUR LIVES!
Seriously. We got within 20 yards of the bridge and one of us said to the other "wanna go back?" to which the other responded "YES!!!"
The whole way back, we're walking briskly and joking about how stupid we were for coming all the way out there in a lightening storm - I believe the quote of the night was actually
"WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!!"
(that was R - the whole way back to the van)
We made it back to the van all right, and sat in the back of it for a half-hour or so, drinking out sparkling grape juice. And toasting our survival.
And somewhere in the midst of our celebrations, R turned to me and asked, "so...is this LiveJournal worthy?"
Yes, honey, it is. It is.
