Training: Joe Rodota Trail, between Sebastopol and SR
Miles: About 5.5
Time: 1.5 hours
Course: FLAAAAAAT
Song: "Hammer to Fall" by Queen
Just finished up my first (serious) training of the season. Hoorah for me! I've been pretty regularly going at it on the elliptical machine at the gym, but walking in the real world is way different. It lets me completely clear my head in a way that the gym just never does. Anyway, perfect day for it - nothing but blue skies and choice temps. Oooh, and a little bit o breeze.
Without much else in mind to say right now, I think I'm gonna start a little list of things I've learned in my previous training seasons. You know, just in case anyone besides my sis is listening. Feel free to pipe in with your tips and favs if I don't get to them...
#1 best post-race food/drink combo:
In-and-Out fries with extra salt & a COLD glass of chocolate milk (unless your sis steals it in which case a good kick to the head should make you feel better)
First thing I want post-race:
Wet towel
Most important item in my fanny pack:
Packet of salt (*not* stolen from McD's)
Best during-the-race food:
Lemon Lara Bar
#1 most important thing to remember if you're a walker:
Take care of your feet!
#1 most important thing to remember if you're a runner:
Don't try to high-five the walkers!
What to do when you've hit your wall:
Name every team honoree and personal honoree you can think of
What to do when your feet won't cooperate anymore:
Pump your arms faster and your feet will (magically) follow
What to do when something hurts:
Stop-n-Stretch, silly
Nuf for now. More to come.
