Video, partially accidental

Jun 09, 2011 14:25

[The video comes on to show an extreme closeup of a brown firelizard's tail. Looks like Argent has managed to accidentally turn on Ray's PCD. The tail moves away, but the bulk of Argent's body still takes up most of the viewscreen until he chirrups and leaps off the table, flying clumsily over to where Ray is leaning back in a chair looking ( Read more... )

[Reno considers before responding, then finally gives a light shrug and hits record on his PCD. The grin he offers the stranger comes easily. Might as well start making new contacts.. and the more benign the method, the better.]

I might be your man. [Unspoken was the part that said, if there's something in it for me.] Kept pretty weird hours back home no problem.

That dragon of yours a baby or just a runt's runt?

I wouldn't expect you to do it for free of course. It's very little work, but I do enjoy sleep.

It's parents weren't much bigger.

I'm game, then. [He offers the screen a bit of a nod.] You'll have to show me what y' need me to do. Only jerky I ever ate came out of a plastic bag.

What're the coords?

It's not hard, just making sure the fire doesn't go out or burn the house down.

Got it.

[There's a pause as Reno toys with is PCD, checking his coordinates against those given - checking what landmarks are displayed on its map, checking what sort of scale it has.]

Yeah.. I gotcha. Not too far away, really. I'll meet ya there in a couple hours.

[It's nearly 'a couple of hours' on the dot, if such were possible, when Reno ambles up to the spot where his PCD has a big blinking X. Looking about the same as he would any day on the job - which is to say, as if he's just rolled out of bed in what might've passed for a nice suit otherwise - he raps on the door with his right hand while keeping his left shoved negligently in one pocket.

One had to keep up appearances, after all.

When answered, the redhead offers a toothy grin and a,]

Yo.

[Ray gives the other man a long look, not disapproving, just measuring. He nods and holds the door open, ushering the other man inside.]

Name's Ray. You're newish here, aren't you?

What gave it away?

[Reno gives him a flippant gesture with his right hand that's somewhere between a sloppy salute and a lazy wave.]

Reno.

[He openly looks around at Ray's house, taking it all in, though his gaze never quite settles on any one thing.]

Nice pad.

Haven't seen you around much. It was a safe assumption.

[The flippancy doesn't bother Ray much. Just means the other man doesn't stand on ceremony, which is fine by him. And looking around is fine, he has few secrets to hide here, and none that are endangered by someone looking around his house]

It is good enough for a bachelor such as myself. But this is a business visit, is it not?

Sure 'nough.

[Reno turns to face him in full. He can't quite stay still for long, though, and is already reaching up to run a hand through his messy hair.]

So where's this bar-be-que of yours?

[Ray's mouth quirks as he makes a mental note of the other man's twitchynes. One of those little quirks most people don't think about, but that are very important to notice in a potential target. And even here, Ray never forgets that anyone could be a potential target.]

It's a smokehouse actually. It's out back

[And quick walk through the house and out the back door to what had probably been a back yard at one point. Now there's just the fixed up smokehouse and the small, covered firepit with hood and pipe directing the majority of the smoke in the correct direction. Ray picks up a stick and pokes the smoldering ashes of the fire.

I'll get it built up during the day, but I need someone to just keep an eye on it, throw another log on if it gets low, that sort of thing.

Yeah, I can do that.

[Reno grins again, though he's still assessing Ray through his own ever-present facade of sloppiness - much as Ray is assessing himself, of that he's certain. No one invites a complete stranger into his home, his safe zone, especially with the express intent to sleep while said stranger is there, unless he's either sure that person's not a threat or he's just plain crazy. Reno's not ready to put his money on crazy just yet.]

You mind if I could maybe get something to drink while I'm sitting out here? Was a bit of a hike gettin' here.

Not much to drink 'round here, and very little cold I'm afraid. I've clean water though, and a couple bottles of a really foul beer.

Either sounds good. [Reno laughs briefly, and the sound is as easy as his grins.] Hell, actually, the beer'd be good, even if it is as bad as ya say. Been a good week or more since I last got to have one, what with all the crap goin' on before I got here.

[He makes his way over to the fire, poking at one of the sticks jutting out from it with the toe of his boot. Keeping a fire lit over the course of the night? Not one of his usual jobs, but, hell, it couldn't get easier than that. And it meant that he'd gotten the opportunity to see who else was brought to this strange world.]

You'll find the alcohol here sadly lacking, especially if you have much taste. [But he goes and gets a mostly-cold beer for Reno.]

Like I said, not a hard job. I've not much to offer in way of payment besides meat. Or yarn possibly.
