Nostalgia

As I stood in the bus shelter, wet and cold and waiting for the bus, listening to Nine Inch Nails on my iPhone, I looked down at my rain-soaked converse... And I saw another girl, fifteen years ago. Standing in the pouring rain, no umbrella, at a bus shelter, wearing converse and listening to Nine Inch Nails on her Walkman.

I don't know if she'd like how she turns out, but I think I did okay. I have 7 earrings, a pierced navel and dyed hair, black eyeliner and red lipstick. She'd think THAT was pretty awesome.

You made it, kid. It's just not as fun and easy as you thought. You're still standing at that bus stop, soaked in rain, in your wet converse, listening to Nine Inch Nails. But in San Francisco, not Seattle. Yes, San Francisco.

I hope it's all you wanted it to be. You finally get to dress however you want, dye your hair, and go to any concert you wanna see. And yeah, you are different from everyone else, but you find people like you eventually. Don't change - you turn out fine. You do a bunch of stupid stuff, but don't regret it.

You also get to play video games all night, have a functional relationship with mom and dad, and be best friends with a rock star (but I won't tell you which one, you have to wait and see). By the way, you get to fly to New York and go backstage at Madison Square Garden. How bitchin' is that?

And yes, you eventually DO get to see NIN. Don't feel bad about missing that concert.

Since it's 1994 again, I'm going to listen to some Nirvana and not care about walking home in the rain.

rain, emotional, san francisco
