I just got back from Shiprock. That was an awesome trip. To read more about it go to
http://nativejedi.diaryland.com On this here LJ account I want to write about som'm else. Terri.
I met her in California around a month ago (I think) when we went for a Youth Leadership Conferance. She came down with those guys from Shiprock. When I was living in Shiprock she was living in San Antonio so I never really met her until this trip to Cali.
Well I was attracted to her, so I made an effort to get to know her. In a way she seemed to isoloate herself from the rest of the group so I would go talk to her. It was pretty koo. I found out she knows how to make some mexican food! Big plus! And she's comfortable around mexicans 'cause she lived around them in San Antonio. Another big plus since I'm half mexican! She's native. 'Nother big plus!
When I was back in Phoenix and she was back in Shiprock we kept in contact, calling each other and emailing each other. Found out we were similar in many ways. Thats koo...
I have a hard time with long distance relationships. I can do it, but in the past they never worked out. I'd rather be around my girlfriend than separated. So I haven't pursued that kind of relationship with her... yet. We're just friends. I'm planning on moving back up to Shiprock in August maybe, but then she's moving to Las Cruces to go to school. **shucks**
I've also been questioning whether or not we're headed in the same direction in our lives. Yes we both believe in God and live our lives for Him, but are we called to do the same thing? She loves being a part of drug-addiction ministry; that isn't anything I've been too thrilled about doing. I'm a part of ministering to our native people through our traditional songs and dances; she's never been involved in that. Currently we're both in youth ministry...
So with these questions going through my head, and with her moving to Las Cruces, I've kinda been just trying to see her as a friend and nothing more.
But in Shiprock this past weekend things were kinda interesting. Before on the phones we both made it clear that we have feelings for each other, but that we want to get to know each other before jumping into a relationship. We expressed that we don't want to be lead by our feelings. So we hadn't talked much about "us" after that. So in Shiprock this past weekend we also didn't talk about "us".
But one night a bunch of us had an all-nighter at the farm and Terri went. You can read more about that in the link I wrote up above, but Terri and I had a little child-like flirting moment.
Other things were said between us that weren't obviously saying what we felt, but were intended to imply it. So I know she still is considering us as a couple.
After I left, she texted me and said that her family was together and a discussion on relationships came up. Brandon was there and told everyone Terri is in a relationship. Naturally their curiosity caused them to question her. She told them to ask Brandon because she doesn't know what he's talking about. So Brandon told them about me. His older sister Breana (sp??) has met me and she told Terri to "go for it" haha.
Terri told me she was just laughing through it all and she didn't know what to say. Everyone has talked about me and Terri after the Cali trip, so the subject of "us" being together is not unfamiliar or odd. However it does leave us pondering the whole idea.
I'm just wondering what to say about it, if I should. I don't want to cause someone to give me their heart if it's not meant to be. I don't want to give anyone else my heart either if it's not meant to be. So I'm praying about it all.
There are also some things I've wanted in a wife that Terri doesn't meet. The idea of meeting my expectations has always been of concern for me. It's always been a question of whether or not I need what I'd like in a wife, or if God knows what's best for me even if it doesn't meet my own expectations.
So here be we, pondering the words of those around us, trying to hear our own thoughts through the commossion of those around us, and trying to filter everything through God's voice.
We still have a lot to learn about each other methinks. We don't know each other that much. Of course that takes time in any relationship, but I feel we need to know some more about each other before entering a deeper relationship. Heck, I need to learn more about my own self. We're not too comfortable around each other yet, and no doubt that takes time. It's hard that we're currently living 6 hours apart.
I'm looking for You to light my path Abba Father.
