the narration crackles and pops with incendiary wit

Buying RENT today was such a traumatic experience. I went right after work over to the Best Buy, picked up two copies (one for me, one for incredulity), paid for them, drove all the way home, sat in my car to hear the end of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" on the ipod while I opened my copy, only to discover (when the plastic wrapping was almost all the way off) that I'd picked up two FULL SCREEN EDITION copies of the movie.

If you've been around me at work, or anywhere really, you've probably heard my "widescreen is the ONLY VALID WAY TO WATCH A MOVIE, I mean, as long as it's available and you're technologically savvy enough to understand why there are black bars at the top and bottom of your screen and if that really bothers you, why don't you go out and buy a widescreen tv, you moron" speech. Full screen just is not going to cut it.

So I started the car back up, drove all the way back and endured the look on the door greeter's face (a mix of "didn't you just come in here?" and "do I know you?"), the laughter of the lady at the customer service desk, and the added thirty minutes between buying it and watching it.

Aiee. It's such a beautiful thing. I watched the whole documentary bit about Jonathan Larson and the casting and the family and eesh. So sad. I may have cried a lot. And I watched the deleted scenes, and I maintain that Chris Columbus is an idiot, and there really was no reason to cut Goodbye Love. Maybe Halloween, though it pains me to say, but you needed some argument between Roger and Mark to have that kind of resolution on the rooftop during What You Own. Because, I mean, the hug is fabulous, the looks on their faces are wonderful, and yes Angel just died, but it still kind of makes absolutely no sense if you don't know the original. I've asked people. It doesn't. Also, the transition between the grave yard and the car in New Mexico is just kind of awkward.

But life goes on.

This whole thing that I just managed to get over (the compulsive listening, the singing, the watching, the.... etc) is probably back full force. Again. Maybe it'll just be a season, like my LotR season, for the whole life. That would be weird.

In other news, I love the fact that I get to download cds off of itunes and I don't have to mess with cases and space hogs and such, but I miss (MISS A LOT) liner notes. I don't need to hold them in my hand, if I could just read them once, I'd probably be fine. And not all liner notes, mostly just Adam Pascal's. Because I bet his are cute.

And yes. I need to step away from my computer now.

ipod, me being an idiot
