long entry is long

So last week was slightly exciting.

Went to north Texas, saw Ben Folds with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday. He hit a lot of my favorite songs (Still Fighting It and Luckiest highest among those) but he was sick at the time and on a lot of (prescription) drugs, so the show was perhaps less exciting than it otherwise could have been. Also, my friends chose to go for the cheaper tickets and we sat in the choir terrace, so mostly I could only hear the orchestra. Still, exciting to see him. At some point he turned back to the choir loft and tilted his bottle at us while everyone clapped. I waved at him and HE TOTALLY WAVED BACK.

On Thursday we went back to Six Flags and the lines were so freaking short because apparently everyone else in Dallas was at the welcome home parade for the Mavs. *shrugs* So that was nice, if extremely HOT.

Thursday night I saw Super 8 which was SO AMAZING OMG. Like, a lot of me could have done without the alien eating people, but it's not like I don't understand why and what happened and how mean the people were to it. But GAH, so good. Elle Fanning was freaking fantastic, as were all the kids, and OMG KYLE CHANDLER, LOVE HIM SO MUCH. Everything was so fantastic. Ole JJ sure can make a good flick.

The friends I was visiting lost their AC somewhere on my second day there, so on Friday Amy and I escaped their super hot house to see Midnight in Paris, which I'm not sure I should worry about spoiling, but omg that was so good too. Most of the time I'm very on the fence about Woody Allen, but I really liked this. It had kind of a simple message, but the package the simple message was wrapped in was so fantastic. Also, Adrien Brody has the most flipping awesome cameo in the history of cameos as Salvador Dali, going on and on about the beauty of the rhinoceros.

Then on Friday night my friends and I went back over to Dallas to see SPAMALOT, which is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen in the entire world. I laughed for two hours straight. Best 18 dollars I have ever spent.

AND NOW, I have two recs.

causeways has been talking about an original gay fic about young Abe Lincoln-esque lawyering for (I am not lying at all) at least three years now. There have been so very many incarnations of this story and I heard about every single one as she wrote them and I was pretty sure it was never ever going to see the light of day. But it did and I got to beta it and it is SUPER AWESOME.

Beyond My Imagination -- Set in the late 1840s, nineteen-year-old Ben Hadley moves to St. Louis to work as an attorney, where he meets and becomes roommates with a young medical assistant named Charlie Atwood.

The second is an awesomely hilarious Avengers story that misskittye wrote after seeing Thor. It's Loki/Thor and Tony/Steve and I laughed out loud more than once.

Unforseen Side Effects -- Tony Stark says really important things all the time but no one ever takes him seriously, not even when they really should. So when Tony says he's going to buy an island, sure, no one listens to him because apparently they think that kind of "hyperbole" doesn't need a response. The thing is though, Tony Stark actually can buy an island so he does and now the Avengers have an island that they can use as needed. Do they ever thank him for it? No. They don't even treat it as a learning experience for the next time he says something a little off beat but definitely right.

Good fic makes me so happy. :)))
