He dips his feet shallowly into the water below the wharf and sighs softly, resting his head against Adam’s shoulder. “What did we do wrong?”, he asks softly, reflecting on their past instead of his most recent heartbreak. Adam sighs his name softly, a quiet warning, but Cassidy presses on. “No, I mean it. We have something; I know you’ve felt it, too.”
He traces his fingertips lightly along Adam’s thigh as he continues, “So how come we’ve never been something real?” He closes his eyes, smiling softly when he feels Adam’s hand cover his own. “You’d never hurt me.”
