Mookie frowns down at the suitcase on his bed. It seems too full, and not in the 'oh yeah, some fans gave me gifts' way. He contemplates the issue for a moment before figuring out what's wrong. He digs through the contents, throwing some of them back onto the bed; a hat, a shirt, two cds, and a belt - all Earl's. A lot of their stuff had gotten mixed up during the competition; understandable, considering how much time they'd spent together.

He closes the suitcase with a soft click, and locks it, then crawls onto the bed, sitting with his back to the headboard. He reaches out, taking Earl's hat into his hands, and twirls it between his fingers. He sighs quietly, letting his head fall back, and closes his eyes.

"There." Earl smiles, tilting the hat on Mookie's head. "Now it's perfect."

Mookie shifts uncomfortably, and raises his eyes to look at Earl, wordlessly begging for approval.

Earl's smile softens as he appraises the boy's shy demeanor. He pats the boy on the shoulder, and grins. "Go rock it out, kid."

Mookie's eyes light up when Earl smiles, and he blushes. He glances at himself in the mirror, and stifles a giggle, then grins at his best friend. "I will."

Mookie doesn't notice the door opening, so he's a bit caught off guard when he feels someone sit down next to him. He leans his head against Earl's shoulder, and sighs as Earl wraps an arm around him, and hugs him.

Neither of them speak, both unsure of what to say. It's okay, though, they're both comfortable with the silence.

After a long while Earl starts humming quietly. Mookie doesn't recognize the song until right before Earl starts singing.

"People are talkin, talkin 'bout people, I hear 'em whisper, you won't believe it. They think we're lovers kept undercover, I just ignore 'em, but they keep sayin we laugh just a little too loud, we stand just a little too close, we stare just a little too long. Maybe they're seeing, somethin we don't, Darlin'"

Mookie's smiles softly, and tilts his head up to look at Earl. Their gazes lock, and Mookie gasps quietly at the emotion in the older man's eyes.

"Let's give 'em something to talk about," Earl's hand slowly moves up to gently play with Mookie's hair. "A little mystery to figure out. Let's give 'em something to talk about. How about love, love, love, love?"

Mookie jumps in with the next verse before can continue, and it just makes sense to use Earl's arrangement of the song.

"Still, I'm thinking 'bout you every day. Y'know, I'm dreaming 'bout you every night. I'm hopin' that you feel the same way. Now that we know it, let's really show it, Darlin'. Let's give 'em som--"

Mookie's eyes widen when Earl crushing their lips together, successfully cutting him off. The surprise is short lived, though, and soon he is kissing Earl back with just as much intensity.

Earl's hand slides into Mookie's hair, pulling the boy closer, and as the kiss deepens, both of their tongues start battling for dominance. By the time their mouths separate, Earl has Mookie lying on his back beneath him, both of their bodies easily giving into the contact that they've both wanted for months.

While Earl contemplates his next move, Mookie pulls him down against him, still panting for breath, and rolls them over so that he's now laying on top of the older singer. He presses a soft kiss to Earl's lips, then smiles as he feels the other man's arms snaking around his back, holding him in place. He rests his face against Earl's chest, and sighs.

"Y'know.. we're a little late getting here."

"Better late then never."
