Chapter 3 M for Mature
David can feel himself waking up, but he keeps his eyes closed, determinedly, knowing that once he's fully awake he will have to get up, something he doesn't particularly fancy doing right at the moment. He snuggles closer to Jason, who is still sleeping, and listens to the calming sound of his breathing. David stays like this for a long while, but it doesn't lull him back to sleep.
He chances a look at the sleeping angel, but once he's set eyes on him, he can't make himself look away. Jason just looks so peaceful, more peaceful, even, than when he performs, and it makes David smile. He carefully untangles his arms from around the younger man, and brings his hand to Jason's face, gently running his fingertips along his cheek. His eyelids flutter momentarily, but he remains asleep.
David slowly trails his fingers down the side of Jason's face, down to his neck, then brushes them lightly over the bruise that's formed there. His smile turns sad at this, even more so when he turns his focus to Jason's bruised wrists. He wonders if, perhaps he'd gone too far the night before, but he also knows that there was no other way to convey his message. He becomes sadder still because he knows Jason has already forgiven him for it. That's how it always starts.
He returns his gaze to Jason's face, his beautiful, angelic face, and it relieves some of the sadness. David presses a gentle kiss to Jason's forehead before climbing out of the bed, careful not to wake him.
He wanders out to the kitchen area slowly, his body still too tired for such strenuous activity. Michael has already made a pot of coffee, and David takes out a mug and helps himself.
"Morning, mate," Michael greets groggily, and David can tell he's hung over. Not that the dimmed lights, and bottle of ibuprofen hadn't already given that away.
David swallows a mouthful of coffee, then sighs. "Long night?", he asks, raising an eyebrow at the Aussie, who simply shrugs.
"Was gonna ask you the same thing," he gives David a knowing smile, then laughs, "Looks like I owe Carly 20 bucks."
David frowns, and shakes his head."It seems like gambling is all anyone does around here."
"It's entertaining," Michael argues weakly.
"Right."
There's a long moment of silence that seems to stretch on for an eternity. David finishes his coffee and pours himself more, then walks over to the fridge, rooting through it for something to eat.
"So?", Michael finally asks, looking at David expectantly.
" 'So' what?", he replies as he grabs a slice of yesterday's leftover pizza, and closes the fridge door. He takes a bite, barely chewing it before he swallows.
"So, are you guys, like, ..um..", Michael stops, apparently searching for the right word, "together?", he finishes lamely, not the word he wants, but it works.
David is silent for a while, nibbling on his pizza. Why does Michael care, anyway? He leans back against the counter, and sighs, setting down his coffee mug. "I'm ..not really sure," he finally admits. Jason had said that he wanted David, but did that really classify as being in a relationship? No. Not in David's mind, at least. Pity, because he has no idea how to approach the topic with Jason, so it may be awhile before he actually knows the answer to Michael's question.
Michael tilts his head to the side, watching David silently, before standing up, and walking over to him. "I reckon you should find out, soon, mate," he says as he places a hand on David's shoulder.
David hears Jason call for him from the other room, and smiles to himself. He looks at Michael and nods, "I will." With that he walks back across the kitchen and starts down the hall.
"David?", Jason asks again, his voice weak and childlike. He is already in the hallway, the bedroom door left open. David suspects that he has probably only just woken up, as he is still wearing only his boxers. There's panic in his eyes, but it melts the moment that he sees David. "I woke up and you weren't there.." he whines, and David pulls him into his arms, "I thought maybe you were gone.. maybe you left."
"I'm here until you tell me to leave," he promises, and Jason sighs in content.
"Then you're here forever." He tilts his head up to look at David, and brushes their lips together.
David wonders if Jason realizes just how long forever is, but he doesn't comment. Instead, he kisses Jason back, before taking his hand and leading him out into the kitchen.
"Morning!", Jason smiles brightly at Michael, who gives him a small nod.
David can't help but notice the way Michael eyes Jason appraisingly, as the boy pulls himself up onto the counter. He leaves Jason for a moment, digging through the fridge for the carton of orange juice. Jason doesn't drink coffee, at least, he's not supposed too. Makes him too hyper. He pours a glass and hands it to Jason, who takes it happily.
"Thanks, babe."
David smiles and returns the carton to it's place in the fridge. He catches Michael's eye for a moment, and the Aussie gives him an imploring look. David just shrugs, and walks back over to where Jason is sitting.
Jason drinks his juice silently, then sets the glass aside. He puts his hand over David's on the counter, and smiles at him lazily.
Michael is just about to leave when Jason reaches out to David, and a flash of light purple-brown catches his eye. He turns his focus to their hands, scanning for the cause, and his first reaction when he finds it is confusion. This confusion is quickly replaced by anger, but when he takes in the smiles on both David and Jason's faces, it fades back to confusion. He considers the situation for a moment, then decides that it isn't really his place to say anything, but promises himself he'll keep an eye out for any similar occurences later on.
"I'm out, guys," he mumbles, as he heads for the door.
"Later, Mike," David replies, while Jason just waves. And then Michael is gone, and they're alone again.
