The day the world was WARPED....

Jul 24, 2005 00:35

I want to tell you all the story of a day worth remembering. A day when we embarked on a journey to conquer the Warped Tour with all of our limbs remaining intacted. This day was Friday, July 22, 2005. The day the world was WARPED.

Being that this was the first time the three of us(Jenn, Anthony, and myself) had ever been to the Warped Tour, we really didn't know what to expect. So, we left out at around 5:30 Friday morning with ever dwindling hopes that it wouldn't rain all day in Cincinatti. The drive up went smoothly and we arrived at our destination at about 9 or 9:30, at which point we made a pitstop at the only store in the whole area, a Marathon. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones with the idea, so the bathroom line was kinda long. We hadn't eaten yet so we decided to try and snack on something light as a precautionary measure. The combos and cheez-its didn't go over very well, and neither Anthony or myself could eat. Jenn managed to eat a little and then it was off to stand in line. At that point the sky was filled with dark clouds and rain was almost sure to hit. We didn't put on any sunscreen thinking it would be overcast all day. Boy, would we regret that later.

In line we were harassed by up-and-coming bands trying to sell their cds. The drummer for a band called Oreon even grabbed Jenn by the arm and sang Incubus in her face. That was interesting to say the least. It also began to get really hot while we were in line, and those clouds I mentioned earlier, they didn't last long. The sun came out in full swing and made itself known. When the gates finally opened at 11 it only took us about 10 minutes to get in. We wondered around for a few minutes trying to figure out exactly what the hell was going on and where the stages were. It was at that point that Anthony heard Matchbook Romance in the distance. That started our day of dehydration and drudging through crowds. We would come to find that water was $3.50 a bottle and that sunscreen was a precious comodity we would have gladly paid for.

At the end of Matchbook Romance's set we made our way to the stage that My Chemical Romance was scheduled to play. When we arrived there, we ended up at the very front of the crowd at the rail on the right side. We saw Thrice play and waited impatiently for MCR. I was so excited I could barely contain myself, and we ended up with really awesome spots on the very front row. I do believe it was quite possibly one the most wonderful things I have yet to witness in my lifetime. Oh yes, Gerard Way is beautiful on t.v., but once you see him live it's all over. He is the absolute definition of walking sex. And of course I have tons of photos. The show kicked infinite amounts of ass,(can I get a *fuck yeah, amen, hallelujah*)and by the end of it we were all at the point of passing out. Thank heavens for those $3.50 cups of water.

Okay, so if I told you every single detail then this would be even more boring than it already is, so I'll spare you. In total we saw about 11 bands. These include but are not limited to: Matchbook Romance, Thrice, My Chemical Romance, The Offspring, Relient K, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Yesterday's Rising, Horrorpops, Lost City Angels, and Hawthorne Heights. Not bad for 37 bucks. I'll just say that we left sunburned, sweaty and exhausted, but every second was worth it. I saw some people that I recognized in the crowds and a lot more that I didn't and in the end I wouldn't have changed a thing(I just wish that Jenn had felt better). All three of us were satisfied and ready to head home by the end of the day.

I just want to say thanks to you Jenn for making it possible for us to go and for being the best friend anyone could ever have. I also want to say thanks to Anthony for being there with us to share it all. It's always fun with you Anthony and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else there to be my "mosh pit protector" (hahaha). We survived without throwing up, passing out, or breaking limbs, so a big "*HIGH FIVE*" goes out to you two. The day was a great success and the most fun I've had with anybody in a long time, so don't ever forget it. I know I won't.

And so today is just another ordinary day and we carry on with our lives, but I know that I've got the memories and some kickass photos to enjoy as I wait for another day in which our world will be WARPED....

***As a side note, I got to stop by Berea on the way home and see Lisa for a few minutes. Yay! I miss you Lisa. One more month to go. Then on a more somber note, when I got home from Warped Tour I found out that my grandma had been put in the hospital. It was a sour end to a sweet day and I have to admit that I feel pretty crappy for being so happy and excited about the great day I had while everyone else was worried sick. I ended up sleeping in a car last night in the hospital parking lot, for the three hours that I did sleep, so I'm pretty wiped out. I guess it's just a part of life and taking the good with the bad. There was nothing I could have done to help if I had been home all day, so I'm not going to dwell on that. I did have a great time and my grandma is still hanging on so hopefully all will be well in the end.
