'The blood of patriots and tyrants'?

Apologies for the radio silence lately. I'm on a week's annual leave after tomorrow night so I'll catch things up then.

In the meantime, I'd like to share a couple of articles that have turned up in The Guardian today. The first article is commentary on the right dragging the NHS into their arguments against Obama's healthcare reforms. The comments section on the article went a bit mad after it was posted.

The second article, well... The second article is about healthcare reform, too. It mentions Nazis. I know it's not really an online debate as such, but I'm going to go ahead and invoke Godwin's Law and declare the arguments of the opposition null and void.

Also, just for the record, I think the NHS is a pretty damned good thing. I was without health insurance for years in the States because I couldn't afford it and even though they have it here, I still can't afford it. If the health problems I've had since coming to the UK had happened back in the US, I can't imagine what state I'd be in - or how much debt. As it is, I'm improving and still working and paying my way. The NHS not a perfect system to be sure, but it serves its purpose and people making such bitter arguments against national healthcare need to take a good long look at why they're doing it.
