After class last night I ended up driving out to Kalamazoo to spend some time with Colin before his unit left. We sat in the bar for a little bit, snuggled in the hotel room for a little bit (too bad my overies want to eat each other right now)... and since I was there he decided to take me to the unit with him at 1am; if I hadn't have been there he would have taken the unit's shuttle. So I got to watch them weigh all of their bags and get ready to go. There were quite a few family members there, including little kids who really should have been in bed by then, but Daddy was leaving and everything, soooo.... yeah.
There were also two news teams and tons of police officers. Apparently there's some escaped prisoner guy running around western Michigan wanting to kill military people? I don't know; I can't actually find anything about it. Anyway, around 2:30am they started loading the buses to take them to the airport in Grand Rapids, so I stood outside and watched that, then said goodbye to Colin before he got on the bus.
Here are a couple of reports about them deploying... Colin is in one of the pictures in the GR Press story, and I'm the one holding the camera near the beginning of the CBS clip. LOL
