So, here's the thing:
I went chez le docteur the other day for a check-up, and we got to chatting (because Robert Backus is an incredible, incredible man. If I can be like him when I'm like 70 or whatever he is, only not a man, I will be so, so grateful.) about brasil (he went as an experimenter in '61, now he goes back once a year for a month to doctor poor Brasilians) and he was basically just like, "So I'm the president of the board of directors of this really great aid organization that heals people and teaches them how to read, and if you want to go down for, oh, three to six months, I could hook you up and you wouldn't have to pay for room or board and it would be pretty awesome." And it sounds amazing. And I really want to go. And I'm thinking about taking a semester off to do it. It just feels right in a lot of ways; I've been thinking about taking some time off, thinking about how I want to go back to Brasil, thinking about how Portugese is a really sweet language... there were some brasileiras in the outlets at Manchester this afternoon I THINK IT'S A SIGN. What do you all think about THAT?
