If anyone has been watching the news lately they might have noted that people have been attacking the pope's anti islamic statment. Being surrounded by muslims that have also held up the cry... but unfortunately most everyone seems to have overlooked two important facts, number one: the pope didn't say anything, but rather quoted a Byzantine Emperor. Second, the empoeror wasn't that anti-islamic note:
"God is not pleased by blood, and not acting reasonably is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats. ... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death."
Unfortunately the islamic world is a little upset, and I don't know exactly where the news reporters got this idea... but than again I rarely trust the news. Nevermind that i work for a newspaper currently.
