Stop tooting your own horn. You're not special. It's great how you don't realize that music isn't as large a part in peoples' lives as you think. Most people just use music as a filler stimulus, thus they have no need to have a refined palate in music such as yourself. Not actively listening to music means that you don't need much variance; the majority of the population just cares if it's catchy and COOL.
