Today, an email went around my work in which our COO said that I have "ultimate decision-making authority"

...and now, my evil plot begins!

This morning I interviewed someone for a linguistics job where I work, and she was a great candidate but I have to wonder: Should we hire someone who shows up for an interview A WHOLE WEEK EARLY?
