Saturday was Free Comic Book Day. Rather than hitting the usual haunts here, I was invited to join likeadeuce and some Twitter friends for a "comics caravan". So I took the Amtrak train at any ungodly hour down to Richmond, Virginia. So I posted a blog entry on the virtues of Free Comic Book Day. I went over to the Big Planet in Vienna. They had most of the bigger titles, but they didn't seem to have as many of the smaller quirkier titles sadly. To me that's really the fun of FCBD. So the DC Source has a preview up for issue #31. To our surprise, Bernard Chang is doing the artwork for this part of the story, instead of Aaron Lopresti, who was unavailable due to a family illness. I really like the nurse Tamika. So I went down to Big Planet Comics for Free Comic Book Day. The mob was fairly manageable. Not a lot of kids, like last year, unless they came earlier, so the whole "Think of the children" approach to the content struck me as a bust. So this Free Comic Book Day went much better than last year. Big Planet allowed a maximum of ten books a person, rather than the paltry one at a certain other store.
