MTV is reporting:
Hitting stores on April 7, 2009, WHV presents the first authorized collection of the Max Fleischer series of Superman theatrical shorts. Originally shown in cinemas in 1941-1942, anyone who’s had the chance to check out these cartoons knows that the animation not only holds up to today’s standards, but arguably surpasses it. After the jump, we run down what fans can expect from the 2-disc set.
In addition to 17 original theatrical shorts, fans can also check out two exclusive featurettes, "The Man, The Myth, Superman," and "First Flight: The Fleischer Superman Series." As mentioned, the set goes on sale next spring, and is currently listed at $26.99.
These have been previously released in various dvd sets because the cartoons had fallen into a weird public domain.
According to another report:
Warner Bros. and DC Comics own the master negatives to these cartoons and the new restorations here are truly breathtaking. Warner Home Video previously released these only as bonus material on several Christopher Reeve Superman DVDs, but are releasing this special set due to popular demand.
I can't wait to see the restorations. You can really tell some places where the original has fallen off in quality.
I really recommend these if you haven't seen them already. They present a very different Superman than you may be used to and certainly the most fearless Lois Lane you'll see.
