Fleischer cartoons caps part 2

Mar 01, 2008 20:28

So I've capped the rest of the Fleischer Superman cartoons. They're in the same format as the previous batch, 640X480 in PNGs as rars. Again the original quality isn't the greatest and some of the episodes are really dark, but I did my best. (If you have the Christopher Reeve Superman collection, remastered versions of the Fleischer cartoons are included in the box set, along with a documentary on the cartoons. I don't know how those compare to the versions I watched, but it's something to keep in mind.)

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the second half of the episodes include a lot of WWII storylines, busting up saboteurs and destroying enemy fleets. It's far from politically correct and Superman is as far from the boy scout as I've ever seen him. Still fighting the good fight, but very much "and the American way" now. I wanted to give some example caps, so you would be warned in advance.

I'm going to start with the "fun" stuff. "Showdown" was probably the lightest fare of the bunch. A pair of criminals have latched onto the perfect scheme with one posing as Superman and stealing the goods.

This allows for a positively silly scene of "Superman" having a cigarette while kicked back in the chair.

Is that a fiver in your shorts, boy scout, or are you just glad to see me?

Lois and Clark are sent to cover the opera, allowing us the lovely sight of Clark done up in a tux. I really couldn't get a good cap of Lois' dress, which was frustrating.

The Fleischer-esque Diana Prince? Nope, just the professor's assistant and accused murderer in "The Mummy Strikes". I was kinda sad she didn't have any scenes with Clark.

Now for the less enjoyable stuf...

Right off the bat we have "The Japoteurs". The US has unveiled this massive bomber and of course the Japanese must sabotage this.

But that doesn't compare to the intense darkness of "The Eleventh Hour." Superman's constant barrage of attacks is counterpointed by views of the clocktower.

This one of the explosions behind the clocktower is from the end of the episode.

This cap of Superman bathed in red is kinda chilling, when you consider he's just finished destroying a ship or three.

Uncle Adolf listens to his fleet's defeat on the radio.
