Great Write Meme & characters

I really am a sheep in wabbit's clothing. In sound mind and shaking all over, I added myself to the Great Write meme on page 25. I've gone on the record somewhere saying those anonymous comments scare me to blazes and they still do. I'm willing to risk it though. What's the saying about any publicity is good publicity? More people that read your fic is a good thing, right?

Another fascinating topic popped by way of metafandom on how characters change/evolve in a particular verse and how your fic is/isn't effected by other interpretations. I hadn't really noticed this for my writing except in SGA. I'm guilty of creating a certain background for my McKay/Cadman stories. I'm not sure if the stagesoflove's stories fall within that verse yet. Other people's fic doesn't have that much of an effect on me, not that way. I find sometimes I have a hard time when their characterization is so widely different from my stories, but that may be another issue.

With SGA, I think it's because we have so little backstory on certain characters, so everyone has free reign to come up with their own backgrounds, even first names. Remember when she was only Miss Calendar to us, dear Buffy fans? How different did she become to us when she was "Jenny" of all things? Smart modern Miss C wasn't/couldn't possibly be a Jenny? How will SGA fans feel any different if we ever get a name for Major Lorne?
