i'm hesitant to take on the world, if you will... but i can't just turn my back on it. don't be afraid of your feelings, as much as they might seem to be against the status quo, or socially irresponsible, or whatever.
so. let's take on the world. it has to be done eventually... for the sake of the planet, for the sake of decent human history, but also, for our own consciouses (did i spell that right?). i suppose at this point we haven't much choice but to work somewhat within the system, at least to build a base of support... but we can't let ourselves be fooled that redemption can be found within it. as long as we have this system we will never truly live. this is not life, it is human creation, human fantasy.
i could go on... a lot. get into religion, paganism, ancient goddess based societies where everyone shared the wealth and no weapons or ruins of forts have ever been uncovered... i could talk about chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, and our rapidly decaying health, thanks to all these modern conveniences. or you could simply look at the rates of murder, drug abuse (not just use!), suicide, and crime to see that this is not a happy country. and then the world. poor world, having to deal with our exported culture, our way of life thrown on them, their own cultures demolished, denounced, demonized... and us, spending money so lavishly on weapons of mass destruction and our own personal materialism, when for less than the inital $86 billion it took to play war in iraq we could have provided a "decent" - healthy, educated, non-third world - way of life to everyone on the planet.
something must be done. we did not create this situation, but the way i see it, we can either comply and perpetuate it (out of ignorance, or out of a wrongly held belief that the little guy can't do anything), or we can... rise against it. change it. a revolution in america would have astounding impacts across the world. if the bastion of western civilization falls, hopefully the rest of it will collapse, and we'll be smart enough to rebuild what's left based on real values... real life.
