The year 2010 will mark the 600th anniversary of one of the largest battles in the Medieval Europe - Grunwald (Tannenberg) battle. To mark this event I am posting this report:
Next year this area will see various celebrations on a scale never seen before. As I know several years ago in Lithuania was produced the idea to create epic film for the anniversary. Later this idea was moved to the international level and this probably will be joint production of Lithuania, Belarus and Poland. The film will have significantly larger budget but many details in the international production are solved much more complicated (who will be director, some changes in the scenario, changes in the actors cast, etc.). So the film will be produced only in 2012 at best. So for now let's look how this historic field looked in the summer 2009. My first photo: when I did it I don't knew that here troops of Grand Duchy were located:
Many souvenir sellers : but all souvenirs are symbols of Polish kingdom or Teutonic order. I don't saw single souvenir with the symbols of Grand Duchy:
Monument built in the early 1960s - ideology of the period required allusions to the WWII:
Monument built in the 1990s nearby:
On this monument I saw single symbol of Grand Duchy:
The place were troops of the Polish kingdom stood:
The reconstruction of the festivities arena was going on:
And the construction of new museum complex was also going on:
Remains of Wiwulski monument built in Krakow and blown by the Nazis in 1939. In the back you can see the place were Order troops were located:
This infodesk I liked most - look at the density of Order castles:
And finally - the village of Grunwald today :)))
